Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA has been picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Media Poll, announced by the league office on Tuesday as part of The American Football Kickoff at Loews Arlington.

The Roadrunners received 368 points and four first-place votes to finish second behind Memphis.

Head coach Jeff Traylor and senior student-athletes Oscar Cardenas and Jamal Ligon represented UTSA at the American Kickoff, which wrapped up yesterday at Loews Arlington.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA?

Nazar Mahmoud: "I chose UTSA because of the fit of the style of play, being close to home, the American Athletic Conference, and the family environment. I am the only returner from last year, and I genuinely love it here at UTSA." 
 
Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA? 

Nazar Mahmoud: "What I like most about being a student-athlete is honestly bonding with other student-athletes because we are all going through the same thing together. And then also interacting with non-student-athletes because you can get caught up in the athlete life and it is a lot. I have loved meeting all the new people this year, from the professors, advisors, trainers, coaches, and students. EVERYBODY has been a joy."

🔼 From the Court to the Classroom. For the fourth consecutive season, the UTSA women’s tennis team has significant representation among the honorees for Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, as the 2024 squad yielded four awardees, including a pair of repeat performers on the national academic standout listing. Aleksandra Zlatarova, Cassie McLay, Eva Beyebach and Mina Obradovic were all named 2024 ITA Scholar-Athletes, while the Roadrunners squad earned its fifth consecutive ITA All-Academic Team accolades.

🔼 From the Court to the Classroom, Part Two. For the sixth consecutive season, UTSA men's tennis has a student-athlete receiving national academic honors, as Danijal Muminovic repeats for the third straight year as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete alongside first-time honoree Garrett Skelly. In addition to the pair’s individual honors, the Roadrunners squad also garnered All-Academic Team honors for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past five years.
