It's time to prep for the City of San Antonio and the Roadrunners' UTSA Let's Go 210 Day

šŸ¤™ The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics

Good morning. Valentineā€™s Day is overrated. When itā€™s February, itā€™s time to celebrate Letā€™s Go 210 Day once again.

In 2023, the City of San Antonio and the Bexar County Commissioners Court proclaimed Feb. 10 as UTSA 210 Day. ā€œLetā€™s Go 210ā€ (ā€œtwo-one-ohā€) is the rallying cry that fills the stands and symbolizes the strong bond between San Antonio and the UTSA Roadrunners.

UTSA fans are encouraged to celebrate Letā€™s Go 210 Day by:
ā€¢    Wearing their blue and orange
ā€¢    Flying their UTSA flags
ā€¢    Posting on social media (#UTSA, #LetsGo210, #BirdsUp)
ā€¢    Donating to the Roadrunner Athletic Fund
ā€¢    Attending the Menā€™s Basketball game vs. East Carolina at 3:00 PM CST on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Convocation Center.

Read the full article for where to get your Letā€™s Go 210 merch and how businesses whoā€™d like to participate can do so.

šŸ“ˆ STOCK UP

šŸ”¼ Heartache on the Hardwood. Despite a double-double by senior Kyra White, the UTSA women's basketball team suffered a 54-53 setback at the hands of UAB on Sunday in American Athletic Conference action inside Bartow Arena.

The Roadrunners (10-8, 4-3 The American) fell to the Blazers (14-4, 5-1 The American), as White delivered a standout performance, dropping 11 points and snagging 10 rebounds, while sophomore Sidney Love and freshman Idara Udo each matched her scoring total.

Newcomer Aysia Proctor and redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman flirted with double-doubles of their own, as the pair scored nine points and snagged eight rebounds, respectively.

UTSA will be back in action on Saturday, with a 2 p.m. tipoff against SMU inside the Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas.

šŸ”¼ Wildcats Tamed. The UTSA womenā€™s tennis team defeated Abilene Christian, 6-1, on Friday at the UTSA Tennis Center, officially opening the spring with a winning week.

This marks the Roadrunnersā€™ first win over the Wildcats since Jan. 26, 2019 (5-2). This is also UTSAā€™s second victory over ACU in the all-time series.

With the win, the Roadrunners improved to a 2-0 record. In their first competition of the spring, the Wildcats fell to 0-1.

The Roadrunners head north up I-35 to face the Bobcats of Texas State at 1:00 PM CST on Saturday, Jan. 27.

šŸ”¼ An OT Battle Royale. UTSA menā€™s basketball team (7-12, 1-5 AAC) rebounded from back-to-back offensive setbacks with a powerful shooting display on Sunday at the Convocation Center, pushing 23rd-ranked Florida Atlantic to the brink in regulation. However, the Owls put down key shots to pull away from the Roadrunners in overtime for the 112-103 Florida Atlantic win.

Leading all scorers, guard Jordan Ivy-Curry tallied the most points since 2020, notching 38 to lead the Roadrunners to their second overtime against a ranked opponent in as many tries this season. Ivy-Curryā€™s 38 points are the most for a UTSA player since Jhivvan Jackson also put in 38 against Florida Atlantic on Feb. 27, 2020. He also recorded 14-of-17 shooting at the line for a career-best and UTSA season high ā€“ while also collecting a team-high seven rebounds.

UTSA will have its first back-to-back home games since the opening week of the month, hosting Tulane next Wednesday, Jan. 24, with a 7 p.m. tipoff for Suits and Sneakers for Cancer. The Green Wave are coming off an upset at home, knocking off 10th-ranked Memphis, 81-79, on Sunday at Devlin Fieldhouse. The weekend will see UTSA travel to South Florida for a Saturday, Jan. 27 matchup with the Bulls in Tampa.

šŸ”¼ Jumping to the Best Conclusion. It was a record-filled opening day for the UTSA track & field team, which kicked off the 2024 indoor campaign with competitors at two different sites over 1,600 miles apart at the Bellarmine Open in Kentucky and the Lumberjack Team Challenge in Arizona. UTSA collected 18 medals between the two meets, locking up three meet records, two program records, and an American Athletic Conference record-breaking debut in the long jump from freshman Ida Breigan.

Taking in her first collegiate competition at Northern Arizonaā€™s meet at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Breigan came through with a major leap on her third pass, hitting a mark of 6.47m (21-2.75 ft.) to not only surpass teammate Oreoluwa Adamsonā€™s (6.46m) 2023 record but also deliver the best indoor womenā€™s long jump mark in American Athletic Conference history. Breigan arrived at UTSA in the fall, fresh off winning both the 2023 Norwegian Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

The Roadrunners will return to action next week in Houston with a big in-state meet, taking on two days of competition at the Robert Platt Invitational on the banked track at Yeoman Fieldhouse, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27.

šŸ”¼ Impressed by Empress. UTSA womenā€™s basketball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Empress Davenport has been selected for induction into the Duncanville (Texas) ISD Athletics Hall of Honor

As a Duncanville Pantherette, Davenport was named the Most Valuable Player on the schoolā€™s 2012 University Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A State Championship team.

Davenport went on to be a standout player at the University of Texas, seeing action in 131 games with 97 starts. She averaged 7.2 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game during her collegiate career. Davenport played in three NCAA Tournaments, including the Sweet 16 in 2014 and 2015 and the Elite Eight in 2015. She helped her team to the championship game of the Big 12 Conference Tournament in both 2014 and 2015.

Since her graduation from Texas and after a season playing overseas in Sweden, Davenport has been a collegiate coach. She spent three seasons (2018-21) as an assistant coach at Lamer University, helping the team to a Southland Conference Championship in 2018-19. Since 2021, she has served on the staff of her college head coach, Karen Aston, at UTSA.
