Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. Athlon Sports has chosen UTSA’s Jeff Traylor as its top head coach in the American Athletic Conference for the 2024 season.

A two-time conference coach of the year, Traylor has led the Roadrunners to a 39-14 record in his first four seasons at the helm, the most wins and best winning percentage (.736) by a coach in program history. UTSA has captured a pair of conference championships, earned four straight bowl berths and made a combined 23 appearances in the three major national polls under his leadership.

🔼 ‘Runner Up. Former UTSA standout Camryn Carreon is set to make her Epson Tour debut today-Sunday, June 7-9, at the Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship, which will be held at Battle Creek Country Club (par 72/6,598 yards) in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Epson Tour is the official qualifying tour of the LPGA Tour and enters its 39th competitive season in 2019.

Carreon is slated to tee off from No. 10 at 1:09 p.m. Central time on Friday. The second round is set for Saturday before cuts are made for Sunday’s final 18 holes. Former Roadrunner and Epson Tour veteran Julie Houston, the 2018 Conference USA individual medalist, also is in the field with a scheduled start time of 8:31 a.m. CT on Friday from the 10th tee.

🔼 Breigan By Leaps and Bounds. The lone performer on Thursday for the UTSA track & field team at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships delivered on repeating as a First Team All-American in the women’s long jump final at historic Hayward Field. Freshman Ida Breigan garnered the second national honor of her rookie campaign while also producing the UTSA women’s highest mark in 17 years.

Breigan’s performance on Thursday marks only the third UTSA First Team All-American honor in the outdoor women’s long jump, the last recorded in 1996 by Hall-of-Famer Tameka Roberts. This also marks the highest a UTSA women’s long jumper has finished at the Outdoor Championships and the highest Roadrunner women’s outdoor finish since Ryanne Dupree was sixth in the heptathlon in 2007.

🔼 A Lasting Legacy. The second woman to receive a full-ride athletics scholarship to The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Rhonda Kay Hoffman ‘87 deeply values the high-quality education she received at the university. She took full advantage of the opportunity to join the UTSA women’s basketball team, setting multiple school records, including the highest free throw percentage in a season.

Rhonda recently decided to include UTSA in her estate plans, acknowledging the influential role the university played in her personal and professional growth.

“You don’t need vast wealth to make a difference through giving. I give what I can,” expressed Rhonda. “Every small gift, over time, can make a lasting impact.”

🔼 This Bird Has Soared. When UTSA student-athletes graduate, they don a stole that says “Student-Athlete,” signifying the journey they completed balancing high-level athletics and academics. The stole was former UTSA track & field student-athlete Darryl Wyrick’s idea, and he helped bring it to life more than a decade ago.

“Everyone wants to do something that leaves a lasting impression, Wyrick said. “When you wear that on graduation day, it represents the sacrifices over the past four years, the days you wanted to give up and stop, the pain at practice, and the celebrations. To know that I had a hand in that, it means a lot.”

Read the incredible feature on Wyrick, who has gone on to earn his Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, land a job as Project Manager for Enterprise Systems with United Airlines, and used his passion for content creation to participate in the NAACP Image Awards and a rooftop party with Issa Rae.
