šŸ“ˆ STOCK UP

šŸ”¼ Arrgh, Matey. On Tuesday, the UTSA women's basketball team fell to the East Carolina Pirates, 82-54, in American Athletic Conference action inside the Minges Coliseum.

The Roadrunners will look to bounce back on Saturday, with a 2:00 PM CST tipoff set against Wichita State inside the Convocation Center. The contest will represent the squad's annual Military Appreciation game, as well as UTSA's first home matchup in The American.

šŸ”¼ Trading Shots. The American Athletic Conference opener for both teams proved to be an all-out slugfest on Thursday night at the Convocation Center between the UTSA menā€™s basketball team (6-8, 0-1 AAC) and the UAB Blazers (9-5, 1-0 AAC). A fadeaway 18-footer with 2.5 seconds remaining secured the 78-76 UAB win.

For the Roadrunners, Jordan Ivy-Curry tacked on another 10 points in the second half for a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists. Christian Tucker and Dre Fuller Jr. both added 15 points to the pot.

Fully in the AAC schedule from here on out, UTSA will hit the road next, traveling to Houston for a Jan. 6 matchup with Rice. Then UTSA moves on to face the top-ranked AAC team, No. 15 Memphis, on the road on Jan. 10.

šŸ”¼ News Fit for a King. Coming off a successful final season in the Conference USA, the UTSA baseball team was picked to finish third in the American Athletic Conference for the upcoming 2024 season, while junior Matt King was named to the preseason all-conference team.

Matt King recorded great numbers as a sophomore in the 2023 season. Amongst returning players, he led the team in OPS (.918), hits (69), RBI (58) and total bases (110). Playing in all 57 games last season, King also collected 45 runs, 11 doubles, six triples, six home runs, and a .411 on-base percentage.

The Roadrunners are set to open the 2024 campaign at home, hosting UT Arlington in a four-game series on Feb. 16-18.

šŸ”¼ Repping the ā€˜Runners. Former UTSA womenā€™s tennis player Keegan McCain has been selected to attend the 2024 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar, to be held Feb. 6-8 in Indianapolis.

As the current graduate assistant for UTSA Student-Athlete Academic Services and a recipient of the NCAAā€™s Womenā€™s Enhancement Graduate Scholarship, which awards $10,000 each to 13 female college graduates seeking a degree program that will help them obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, McCain is an ideal choice.

The NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar is a three-day professional development event that provides leadership, educational, and transitional programming for current graduate assistants and interns from NCAA member schools and conference offices to equip them with the skills necessary to accelerate their career progression in college sports.

McCain, who played tennis for the Roadrunners from 2019-23, graduated magna cum laude through the UTSA Honors College with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing and is currently pursuing her Masterā€™s in Business Administration from UTSAā€™s Carlos Alvarez College of Business.

šŸŽ‰ TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: UTSA football was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Media Poll.

The Roadrunners received 440 total points and nine first-place votes ahead of their debut campaign in The American, good for second behind defending champion Tulane, which garnered 457 points and 20 first-place votes.

The prediction was definitely not far off, as the UTSA Roadrunners football team ended the season in third place in the AAC, just behind SMU (1) and Tulane (2)ā€”beating out 11 other teams.

šŸ¤™šŸ¼ Have a great Wednesday, yā€™all!
