UTSA Athletics has named five former Roadrunners to the 2024 Hall of Fame Class

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA Athletics has announced its 2024 Hall of Fame Class, featuring five former student-athletes who will join the inaugural class of six, which was inducted in October 2023.

The UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, and the group will be honored at other events that weekend, including on the field during the football game against Florida Atlantic the following day at the Alamodome.

🔼 No Bumps in the Road. UTSA volleyball coach Carol Price-Torok has officially unveiled the 2024 schedule. The Roadrunners will host 15 contests, including a Battle of I-35 match with Texas State, two home tournaments, and eight American Athletic Conference matches. Season tickets are on sale now and available for purchase here

🔼 The Lashley Legacy. UTSA Athletics is mourning the loss of former head baseball coach Mickey Lashley, who passed away on June 13 at the age of 70.

Lashley helped start the UTSA baseball program from scratch, as he was hired as an assistant coach in August of 1991 by the first head coach, Jimmy Shankle. Named the second head coach in UTSA baseball history on June 7, 1995, Lashley accumulated 113 wins, including 57 conference victories, during his five years (1996-2000) at the helm. In his first season, he guided the 1996 squad to a 26-win campaign, including 17 Southland Conference victories.

Tye Odom: "I chose UTSA because of the culture of the baseball team and what our coaches are trying to build here." 
 
Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA? 

Tye Odom: "What I like most about being a student-athlete is being able to talk to students and tell them about coming out to support our sports teams." 

Tye Odom: "The most influential person I have been around is my mother because she is so hard-nosed and dedicated in everything she does."

Answer: Monica Gibbs was the first UTSA women’s basketball player to have her jersey retired. She is part of the soon-to-be-inducted 2024 Hall of Fame class that was just recently announced.

Monica Gibbs was a three-time all-conference performer and the 2009 Southland Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year. She helped lead the Roadrunners to two of their most successful seasons in program history. Gibbs was the first Roadrunner to surpass 1,000 points, 900 rebounds, and 600 assists, finishing her career with 1,460 points, 990 rebounds, and 693 assists.
