Men's hooper Jordan Ivy-Curry has been named the AAC Player of the Week

🤙 The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics

Good morning. Jordan Ivy-Curry has been named the AAC Player of the Week, notching a program first after leading the charge on an outstanding late-season week for the UTSA men’s basketball team.

The junior guard had 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals against the Golden Hurricane before dropping 33 points against the Mustangs in Dallas, registering five triples – including the right-arc three pointer to ice the game with a 77-73 lead and 15 seconds remaining.

This honor marks the first AAC Player of the Week award for both Ivy-Curry and UTSA, with the program in its first year in the conference.

The Roadrunners return to the court at the Convocation Center at 2 PM CST on Sunday for the March 10 Senior Day game against Temple. The AAC Basketball Championships begins on March 13 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

📈 STOCK UP

This is Hill’s second conference weekly accolade and first in the AAC. The Grandview, Texas, native was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week last season on March 20, 2023.

Hill led the Roadrunners to a 3-1 record last week, including a series win over Grand Canyon at home on March 1-3. In three starts, he picked up seven hits, six runs, six RBI and a couple of home runs. On Feb. 27 against Houston, Hill hit two home runs and a single that scored four RBI combined to help the Roadrunners rally back from a 7-2 deficit and win the game 8-7.

The left fielder is in the top five of the conference in multiple stat categories, including fourth in slugging percentage (.800), fifth in on-base percentage (.520), tied for second in runs (16), tied for third in home runs (4) and tied for third in total bases (32).

The Roadrunners host Tarleton State on Wednesday at 4 PM PST at Roadrunner Field.

🔼 A Fitting Conclusion at the Convo. The UTSA women's basketball team concluded their regular season on Tuesday with a 60-52 victory over Rice at the Convocation Center, allowing them to reach 16 wins for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.

The Roadrunners (16-13, 10-8 The American) bested the Owls (15-14, 9-9 The American), with freshman Idara Udo logging a double-double to the tune of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Redshirt junior Elyssa Coleman and senior Jordyn Jenkins tied for the team scoring lead, each charting 14, while Jenkins was one board shy of a double-double herself.

UTSA will now await its seeding for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championships. Their 10-8 mark in league play currently slots them fourth with a double-bye to the quarterfinals. If the results hold, the ‘Runners will log their highest conference seeding since finishing fourth with an 11-7 Conference-USA mark in 2015.

🔼 What Lies Beyond Grand Canyon. The UTSA baseball team hosts the Tarleton Texans today at 4 p.m. at Roadrunner Field. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Karl Schoening and Mike Capps on the call.

Broc Parmer is on an eight-game hitting streak, including two multi-hit and two multi-RBI games. Mason Lytle and Caleb Hill each have a team-high six multi-hit games.

UTSA is coming off a series win over WAC powerhouse Grand Canyon, taking two out of three games, including a 12-0 series opener shutout and a 10-9 series closer win. During the weekend, the Roadrunners earned season-highs in at-bats, runs scored, hits, RBI, total bases, walks, sacrifice flies, and strikeouts.

The Roadrunners travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, this weekend to play a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday through Sunday.

🔼 ‘Runners’ Runner-Up. Now that’s a mouthful. Led by top-12 finishes from Camryn Carreon and Morgan Ellison, the UTSA women’s golf team claimed runner-up honors at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club (par 72/6,020 yards).

The Roadrunners fired an 11-under-par 853, the second straight and fifth time overall this season that UTSA has posted a team total below par. It now ranks as the fourth-best 54-hole tally in program history, with three of those occurring during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Roadrunners will return to action on March 30-31 when they compete in The Bruzzy in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
