🤙 The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics

Good morning. Need something to get you (even more) pumped for UTSA Football? 🏈

What else can you find in today’s Brew?

⚾️ Baseball’s Mason Lytle named the AAC Player of the Week
🎾 Men's Tennis has jumped into the (ITA) rankings for the 1st time this season
🤙🏼 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

This marks the centerfielder’s first weekly accolade as a Roadrunner. A recent transfer, Lytle has been a key component of UTSA’s offensive power. He leads the conference with a .405 batting average, 51 hits, 78 total bases and 126 at-bats. Lytle is also second in the league with 13 stolen bases

Mason Lytle extended his hitting streak to 15 games, going 2-for-6 with a pair of RBI. This also marks his 12th consecutive multi-hit game, starting on March 16 against Northwestern. Three more Roadrunners had two-hit games, including Caleb Hill (one double, one RBI, one walk), Tye Odom (one run, three RBI, one walk), and Broc Parmer (two runs, one RBI, one walk).

🔼 Smith’s Perfect Circle. Carrying momentum from an American Athletic Conference Honor Roll selection, sophomore Reagan Smith threw a complete-game shutout as the UTSA softball team defeated Lamar 3-0 on Tuesday at the LU Softball Complex. The Roadrunners (12-26, 3-9 The American) bested the Cardinals (23-13, 9-3 Southland), with Smith (2-1) scattering three hits and recording five strikeouts in the win.

🔼 Holding Court. The UTSA men's tennis team has jumped into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings for the first time this season at No. 69. The Roadrunners have won five of their last six outings, including a pair of ranked victories over Utah State (No. 60) and Oregon (No. 62). This is the third consecutive season the team has reached the national rankings under fifth-year head coach Sergey Avdeyev. According to the computer ITA rankings, UTSA has an 8.0 World Tennis Number (WTN).

Sitting at 9-8 on the season, the Roadrunners have another ranked opponent on the horizon. UTSA faces No. 51 and fellow American Athletic Conference program Rice on Saturday, April 6, at the UTSA Tennis Center.

🔼 Parking Fairies Are Unreliable. Don’t miss your opportunity to secure parking for the 2024 UTSA Football season. Purchase or renew your UTSA Football season tickets by April 10 to request parking for the Alamodome.

🔼 X Marks the Spot. Here are a couple more stories from the Twittersphere:

Roadrunners' men's jumpers are in the top tier of NCAA Track & Field in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings!

And here’s your reminder that UTSA Giving Day is coming up on April 9.

🔼 T is For Tiago Torres’ Tennis Talent. UTSA men's tennis junior Tiago Torres has been selected as the American Athletic Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week. It is his first AAC weekly honor, third career conference weekly honor and UTSA’s second AAC honoree of the season.

Torres (Lisbon, Portugal) won in both singles and doubles to lead UTSA 4-0 win against No. 62 Oregon in the Roadrunners' lone match from last week. He scored a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles handed the Ducks’ 33rd-ranked doubles tandem of Matthew Burton/Quinn Vandecasteele a 6-1 drubbing to set up the doubles victory with partner Tomás Pinho. Torres has helped the Roadrunners to five wins in their last six matches, including a pair of ranked victories that helped propel UTSA to its entry at No. 69 in the national rankings.

🔼 Couple Goals. Tameka Roberts-Nunez ‘98, and her husband Guadalupe “Lupe” Nunez ‘00, met while attending UTSA in the late 90’s. Their connection to UTSA came full circle when the head coach of the UTSA Roadrunners women’s basketball team, Karen Aston, reached out to Tameka during the university's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX for women’s athletics. This re-engagement with their alma mater sparked a friendship with Coach Aston and a chance for the pair to give back to the community that had given them so much. Through this partnership and the UTSA Athletics Bold Champions campaign, Tameka and Lupe have been instrumental in supporting the new generation of Roadrunners.
