Eight Roadrunners named to the American Athletic Conference’s All-Conference Teams

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA baseball team tied its program record, as eight Roadrunners were named to the American Athletic Conference’s All-Conference Teams.
Mason Lytle has earned the conference’s Newcomer Position Player of the Year award, as well as first-team honors. Joining him on the first team are Matt King, Ulises Quiroga, and Alexander Olivo. The four first-team selections are the most in program history. Two more Roadrunners made the second team, including Caleb Hill and Ruger Riojas. Diego Diaz and Robert Orloski were both named to the All-Freshman Team. These eight Roadrunners are tied for the most postseason all-conference honors in program history, which was also done in the Conference USA last season in 2023.

🔼 12th Inning Stretch. The No. 2 seeded UTSA baseball team lost a heartbreaker, 9-5, in a 12-inning contest against seventh-seeded Charlotte in its American Athletic Conference Championship opener on Tuesday afternoon in Clearwater, Florida.
The Roadrunners fall to the losers’ bracket and will face No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic (who fell to No. 3 seed Tulane in the first round) today. Game one between No. 5 seed UAB and No. 8 seed Rice is set for 12 PM CST. UTSA’s game will start 47 minutes after the conclusion of that first game.
🔼 Duly Noted. UTSA head men’s golf coach Matt Wernecke has announced that former Texas state champion Kaelen Dulany has signed a National Letter of Intent. The Arkansas transfer will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2024-25 season.
“We are excited about adding Kaelen to the program,” Wernecke said. “He has played at the highest levels in junior and amateur golf. His success and experience will add depth and talent to our roster.”
🔼 Keeping Track. The UTSA Track & Field teams are sending 18 Roadrunner student-athletes to the next level of the postseason this week, preparing for competition at the University of Arkansas for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships West First Round, contested today through Saturday (May 22-25).
The men's competition will take place today and Friday, and the women's competition will take place on Thursday and Saturday. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will be held June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

🔼 Six-Foot-Four on the Floor. On Friday, head UTSA women’s basketball coach Karen Aston announced the signing of 6-4 transfer Nyayongah Gony. Gony comes to UTSA as a redshirt senior following an illustrious prep career at Lincoln HS and stints at Miami and Mississippi State.
As a redshirt junior at Mississippi State, she made 19 appearances and two starts with the Bulldogs after seeing action in eight contests as a redshirt sophomore.
She redshirted before transferring to Miami, where she played in all 22 games during her freshman season. Gony led the Canes with a 32.7% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
