🔼 It’s All Happening. The San Antonio Express-News picked up the story on Coach Claunch solidifying his roster.

Greg Luca writes, “Stepping on campus to begin his tenure as UTSA’s new men’s basketball coach in early April, Austin Claunch quickly learned he had plenty of roster spots to fill.

“With only one player choosing to return from a Roadrunners team that went 11-21 during coach Steve Henson’s final season in 2023-24, Claunch and his staff faced a busy couple of months scouring the country for potential transfers.“

🔼 Not All Who Wander Are Lost. This summer, UTSA Athletics has been profiling its numerous areas to provide an inside look into how each unit serves Roadrunners’ student-athletes.

In this edition, they sat down with Carlie Heineman, Account Manager for Anthony Travel, who manages all UTSA athletics department travel arrangements. Heineman was also a standout UTSA women’s basketball letterwinner from 2014-2018, where she still ranks in the top-five all-time for career three-pointers (192) and in the top 30 for scoring (768 points).

Q: How does your department service UTSA Athletics?

Carlie Heineman: “I like to think of myself as a one-stop shop for all things travel. Any staff member in the athletics department, the teams, coaches, anybody who is traveling anywhere – flights, hotels, busses – all runs through me. That’s my job.”

🔼 A Different Angle. News of UT’s $5 million investment into their broadcast control rooms spread to the San Antonio Express-News, with Greg Luca writing, “Before this year, a UTSA baseball or softball stream might run through a single, stationary outfield camera, with a lone director position ensuring the grainy images found their way to the air.

“Now, those broadcasts are at least a 12-person production, with a new array of camera angles and technology enhancing everything from the live event experience to the quality of official replay reviews.”

🔼 The Girls in Green. UTSA soccer sophomore Sophie Morrin is set to continue her international call-up journey this month, as she has been selected to continue with Republic of Ireland’s U-19 National team on the UEFA European Championships roster.

In April, Morrin helped the U-19 Irish National Team to three consecutive victories in Group A2 - Round 2, making key plays with starts in two games and aiding Ireland to its first sweep in the Elite round and the first trip to the European Championships since 2014.

On Monday, Morrin was announced among the 20-member roster under head coach Dave Connell. With the finals slated in Lithuania, July 14-27, Ireland was drawn among Group B along with Spain, Germany and Netherlands.

🔼 Let’s Goux. Get to know UTSA volleyball student-athlete Aliah Giroux in this Q&A.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA?

Aliah Giroux: "I immediately fell in love with the campus and really loved how the coaching staff was passionate about growing the program. I also chose UTSA because I am from San Antonio and there’s no better feeling than being able to have my family support me and not have to travel far for games."

Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA?

Aliah Giroux: "What I like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA is how involved we are in the community and how the athletic department makes sure we have everything we need and more."
