UTSA Baseball hosts South Florida for the first time in a three-game series in AAC play

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA baseball team will host South Florida in a three-game series in AAC play this weekend at Roadrunner Field for its last home series of the season, opening tonight at 6 PM CST. Game two on Saturday is set for 2 PM, and the series concludes at 11 AM on Sunday.
In their first season in the AAC, the Roadrunners hold a 13-8 record in conference play and are second in the standings behind No. 6 East Carolina.
Prior to Saturday’s game, the Roadrunners will recognize six seniors and host its annual on-field Graduation.

🔼 Home Track Advantage. In their first year in the league, the Roadrunners Track & Field squad will host the 14-team Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships event on the Class 1 IAAF-Certified surface at the Park West Athletics Complex, today-Sunday, May 10-12, with the entire meet broadcast live on ESPN+.
The Roadrunners will see 47 athletes take their shot in Championship contention, while UTSA enters the weekend with 21 UTSA men’s and 16 UTSA women’s marks listed among the American Athletic Conference top-10 of their respective events.
🔼 Carry On.UTSA sophomore Daniela Abonce tied for 17th place, and senior Camryn Carreon finished 37th to conclude the 2023-24 campaign on Wednesday at the NCAA Bryan Regional at Traditions Club (par 72/6,376 yards).
Carreon concluded her collegiate career with numerous school records on her resumé, including her 71.19 stroke average this season and her career scoring standard of 73.12. She also registered a UTSA-record four victories, 18 top-10 finishes, and 58 par-or-better rounds, including 29 sub-70 scorecards.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA?
Tomás Pinho: "I decided to come to UTSA because San Antonio is a great city with a lot of fun things to explore. The school, in terms of sports, was growing a lot, and I wanted to be part of the group of athletes that helped UTSA be recognized around the country."
Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA?
Tomás Pinho: "Definitely the best things are enjoying all of the great facilities they provide for us athletes and the help we get from the staff to make sure everything is in order - such as academics and nutrition - so we can perform in our sport."

🔼 Birds Up For Brooke. 🤙🏼 UTSA volleyball squad member Brooke Hirsch has officially announced her medical retirement following three seasons with the Roadrunners. Hirsch saw action for the 'Runners across the 2021 and 2022 campaigns, appearing in 43 sets as a defensive specialist and recording 57 digs before injuries cut each season short. A UCL tear halted her freshman year, and subsequent thoracic outlet syndrome sidelined her sophomore campaign and kept her off the court as a junior.
Following multiple procedures, Hirsch made the difficult decision to retire medically, stating, "Playing the game of volleyball has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. With a heavy heart, I am announcing my medical retirement from the game. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play volleyball for the most amazing fans here at UTSA the past three years…”
🔼 Vann Go! Coach Wraps With a 7-Win Improvement. The No. 9 seeded UTSA softball team couldn't overcome the No. 4 seed and host school Wichita State, as WSU claimed a 13-0 victory in the Opening Round of the 2024 American Athletic Conference Softball Championship at Wilkins Field on Wednesday. The loss concluded UTSA's season, with the program's 15 wins representing a seven-win improvement under first-year head coach Vann Stuedeman.

Answer: Roadrunner Joshua Cephus caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown to seal UTSA's 35-17 victory over Marshall in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.
Cephus’s output sent him past Zakhari Franklin to the top of UTSA’s single-season receiving yardage list. The senior from Houston wrapped up his final campaign with 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns on 89 catches, pushing his career-record totals to 313 receptions and 3,639 yards to go with 28 TDs.
