Brew-1-0 5/27: Memorial Day Brew

Today, we honor our fallen soldiers.

🤙 The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. While Memorial Day has long signified the beginning of Summer—complete with pool parties and the scent of barbecues permeating the air—we’d like to take the time to honor those who have died while serving our country.

This morning, we hope you enjoy this sip-sized Brew 1-0—a single shot, if you will. We’ll be back with your Venti-sized edition on Wednesday.

🔼 Culture Club. The UTSA volleyball team is set to embark on a European Tour, with five matches across Hungary, Slovenia, and Italy, spanning Monday, May 27, through Thursday, June 6.

The Roadrunners will arrive in Budapest, Hungary, on May 27 before sightseeing and an afternoon contest on day two against the Hungarian Senior National Team. The squad will then spend day three traveling to Maribor, Slovenia, where a pair of contests await. On day four, the team will visit Pohorje Mountain for lunch before facing the U18 Slovenian National Team. Subsequently, the 'Runners will battle the U20 National Team after a team bike ride into the center of the city on day five.

🔼 Rolling Deep in Oregon. The UTSA track & field made it a milestone day during the third day of the NCAA West First Round competition. The Roadrunners qualified two relay squads and another pair of individuals for the next level in Eugene, Oregon, adding the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays that bookended the day, while freshman Nabil Tezkratt and junior Jemuel Miller punched their tickets in the 400-meter and triple jump, respectively. The new additions bring UTSA’s current qualifiers to four individuals and two relays.

The UTSA track & field squad closed out the four-day NCAA West First-Round competition on Saturday. A pair of women’s Roadrunners, Edlin Laur and Ayumi Kobayashi, were in action.

🔼 A Fork in the Road. On Friday, Elyssa Coleman announced her medical retirement from basketball after a trio of stellar seasons with UTSA.

Following complications from multiple ACL reconstruction surgeries, Coleman stated, “This was not a decision that was made lightly, and after multiple surgeries plus an unexpected upcoming one, I, unfortunately, will have to walk away from a sport that I've been in love with since I was seven. I want to thank Coach Karen (Aston) and the entire UTSA coaching staff for taking me in and always surrounding me with love during my three years here.”
