UTSA men's hoops kicks off inaugural AAC Championships TODAY!

Good morning.  The 14th-seeded UTSA men’s basketball team (11-20, 5-13 AAC) is kicking off its inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships today at 2 PM CST with a repeat opponent—11th-seeded Temple. This will be their third matchup in 25 days. The conference championships will be played at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena.

The winner of today’s game will move on to the second round and face No. 6 seed SMU on Thursday at 8 PM CST in an ESPNU-televised matchup.

🔼 Leaving it All on the Floor. The No. 4 seed UTSA women's basketball team narrowly fell to No. 9 seed East Carolina, 55-54, in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship semifinals on Tuesday in Dickies Arena. Despite a handful of stellar performances, the Roadrunners (17-14, 10-8 AAC) came up short against the Pirates (19-13, 9-9 AAC). 

Senior Jordyn Jenkins recorded a team-high 14 points with four rebounds, while sophomore Sidney Love joined her in the double-digit scoring club, charting 10 with five boards.

The Roadrunners now await their postseason fate, with Selection Sunday slotted for March 17. 

Bott tied for 18th with a 3-over-par 219 to help UTSA post a 912 for 14th, one shot behind UCF and only two back of Coastal Carolina in the field that featured seven nationally ranked teams.

🔼 Giving Day = Best Day. UTSA Giving Day begins four weeks from yesterday, on April 9-10, and the Roadrunners are ready for the biggest celebration of giving yet!

UTSA Giving Day is a campus-wide online campaign that provides ‘Runners everywhere an opportunity to support important initiatives and compete against other units throughout campus. There will be plenty of challenges and prizes throughout the two-day event so be on the lookout for more info to come. With your support, we will continue to develop champions in the classroom, in competition, and life!

🔼 Success From the Circle. The UTSA softball team concluded a five-game road swing on Tuesday, as they bested Kennesaw State 5-3 in nonconference action at Bailey Park. As a result of the triumph, UTSA recorded its first road win of the year and matched the 2023 squad's victory tally with 29 games remaining to improve upon the previous mark. 

The Roadrunners (8-19, 0-3 The American) topped the Owls (6-17, 0-0 ASUN), with senior Jamie Gilbert (3-7) twirling a complete game with five strikeouts for the win.

Answer: The only accolade from the trivia list that Jordyn Jenkins has not received is Second Team All-Conference.

Jenkins is also the first UTSA student-athlete to win four C-USA Player of the Week honors in a single season.
