Roadrunners Baseball improves to a 22-15 record by taking down Islanders

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA baseball team defeated the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-2 at home on Tuesday, improving to a 22-15 overall record.

Ryan Beaird (1-0) earned the win, striking out five and keeping the Islanders scoreless in three innings. Ruger Riojas picked up his sixth save of the season, striking out two in the final 1.2 scoreless frames.

The Roadrunners host a three-game conference series against UAB this Friday through Sunday for Fiesta Weekend at Roadrunner Field.

🔼 On Par. Daniela Abonce posted an even-par scorecard to help the UTSA women’s golf team remain in the top five teams after the second day of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Tuesday at Southern Plantation Club (par 72/6,289 yards). Abonce’s 72 paced a 302 turned in by the Roadrunners, who are in fifth place at 8-over 584 with 18 holes left to play today. They tee off from No. 1 beginning at 7:00 AM CST.

🔼 Leaps and Bounds. For the second time in the 2023-24 season and first in the outdoor season, UTSA performers dominated the weekly American Athletic Conference awards. Ida Breigan, Brice Chabot, and Christiaan Le Roux were each named AAC Athlete of the Week in their specific areas of expertise.

🔼 For All the Marbles. The UTSA women's tennis team earned the No. 9 seed and will face eighth-seeded Tulane on Thursday at 9:00 AM CST in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Championships.

The Roadrunners ended the regular season with a 16-6 record. A 7-0 home sweep over Lamar on April 10 ensured UTSA concluded the regular season on a six-match winning streak.

🔼 Braving the Wave. The UTSA men’s tennis team has been given the No. 7 seed for the American Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championships, opening their inaugural AAC tournament in the first-round matchups tomorrow, Thursday, April 18. They face No. 10 Tulane (7-14) at 10:00 AM CST.

UTSA has reached double-digit victories for the fourth consecutive year under head coach Sergey Avdeyev. The Roadrunners briefly entered the national rankings in the final two weeks of the regular season and reentered the rankings at No. 73 heading into the tournament.

🔼 Traylor Toss FTW. The UTSA softball team is set for a Battle of I-35 showdown, with a nonconference matchup against No. 25 Texas State tonight at 6:00 PM CST at Roadrunner Field. Additionally, head UTSA football coach Jeff Traylor will toss out the ceremonial first pitch as part of the festivities.
