Contract extension for UTSA VP for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos approved through 2029

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The University of Texas System on Wednesday approved a contract extension for UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos, who was one of five finalists for the 2022 Sports Business Journal’s Athletic Director of the Year Award, through November 30, 2029. 

Campos has been the architect of the rapid ascent of the UTSA Athletics program, including leading UTSA into the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2023. Campos’ Roadrunner Game Plan has created a culture of excellence for student-athletes both in academics and athletics.

“At UTSA, we’re excited to announce the availability of mini-plans and group tickets for the upcoming season,” UTSA Deputy AD Brad Smith said. “These options provide our fans with greater flexibility and the opportunity to experience Roadrunner Athletics in a way that fits their schedule and needs.”

🔼 Coach Claunch Camp. Under the direction of first-year head coach Austin Claunch, the UTSA men's basketball program will host a three-day youth camp to open the month of July at the Convocation Center.

The UTSA Men's Basketball 2024 Youth Camp will be held July 1-3 at the UTSA Convocation Center. Accepting campers aged 7-13 years old, the Roadrunners’ camp will provide opportunities to improve fundamentals, along with technical skills and knowledge of the game—all while having loads of fun. UTSA Men’s Basketball is committed to providing an excellent learning environment with a low coach-to-camper ratio, with instruction provided by UTSA Men’s Basketball coaching staff and players.

🔼 Running Away With It. Fresh off a very successful appearance at the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, the UTSA Track & Field team pulled in its largest haul of All-American credentials in program history, collecting 12 total certificates across the four individual qualifiers and two relay teams that competed last week in Eugene, Oregon. Meanwhile, the women’s team finish was its highest since 1992.

The 2024 traveling party marked the largest national qualifier pool for the Roadrunners during the coaching tenure of Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aaron Fox, who just completed his 16th season in the role.

🔼 The Writing on the Alamodome Wall. The preseason honors continue to roll in for UTSA, as eight Roadrunners have been named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team.

Place-kicker Chase Allen, tight end Oscar Cardenas, and defensive lineman Joe Evans all earned a spot on the first team, while defensive lineman Brandon Brown and wide receiver Devin McCuin made the second team.

Safety Ken Robinson was UTSA’s lone third-team selection, and linebacker Jamal Ligon and money backer Donyai Taylor both landed on the fourth team.
