Roadrunners took down the Pirates in AAC action on Sunday afternoon

Good morning. The UTSA baseball team secured an upset series win over No. 10 East Carolina, taking down the Pirates by 6-5 in American Athletic Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. This series victory marks the first time the Roadrunners have won a three—or four-game series against a top-10 team.

Broc Parmer led the team with three hits, two of which were doubles. Three more Roadrunners, Mason Lytle, Alexander Olivo, and Zane Spinn, each picked up two hits.

🔼 Relaying Some Great News. The Roadrunners registered 27 top-10 finishes, including 10 medal-worthy performances on Saturday during the Texas A&M Invitational. Leading the way, Isabella Simonelli and Gabriel Binion each registered first-place field event finishes.

Next week, the Roadrunners will split up the squad, as a select group will compete at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, which run Wednesday through Saturday, March 27-30, in Austin. The bulk of the team will head up I-35 to a closer destination, the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, a two-day event running March 29-30.

🔼 Can’t Touch This. The UTSA women’s tennis team swept a doubleheader from Prairie View A&M, 5-2 and 4-0, on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center. In their first home match since Feb. 7, the Roadrunners cruised to a pair of victories, improving their season record to 12-6 while remaining perfect at home in five contests.

The Roadrunners will remain at home to host Sam Houston at 1 PM CST on Wednesday, March 27, in a match that was originally scheduled for Feb. 4 but canceled due to windy weather.

🔼 Home Stretch. The UTSA softball team was defeated via the run rule on Saturday, as Wichita State worked a 12-0 victory in an American Athletic Conference series finale at Watkins Stadium. UTSA will now turn its attention toward a 5:30 p.m. against Lamar at Roadrunner Field tomorrow before hosting Memphis in a three-game AAC series beginning on Thursday. 

🔼 Heads Held High. Despite a stellar second half and a 28-point performance by senior Jordyn Jenkins, the UTSA women's basketball program's historic season came to a close as Wyoming bested the 'Runners 80-64 in the Second Round of the 2024 Postseason WNIT. 

UTSA wraps up a milestone campaign that saw the program's first national postseason victory, their first postseason appearance in 15 years, and the most wins since the 2008-09 campaign. 

🔼 Sunshine and Smackdowns. UTSA men’s tennis (8-8) went right back to the winning track with great weather on Friday at the UTSA Tennis Center, topping Dartmouth (7-10) in a 6-1 victory that closed out the week’s competition.

The Roadrunners will host their first midweek competition next week, welcoming the Oregon Ducks to the UTSA Tennis Center on Tuesday, March 26.

🔼 A Bold Move. UTSA has received a $1.25 million commitment from The Greehey Family Foundation to support its Be Bold capital campaign. The Greehey Family Foundation is recognized for its dedication to health and human welfare, children's advocacy, education, and transforming the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness. Funds will be used to establish The Greehey Family Foundation Athletics Excellence Fund, which will provide scholarships to athletes who are first-generation college students as well as academic services to ensure students are successful in the classroom.

To date, the Be Bold capital campaign, which aims to enhance student success, research excellence, and innovation, has raised over $380 million from more than 46,000 donors.
