UTSA punter Lucas Dean named American Athletic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA punter Lucas Dean has been named the American Athletic Conference Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Dean was one of 23 recipients honored by The American for their academic and athletic performance.
A three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team selection, Dean posted a 3.87 GPA while earning his bachelor’s degree in economics, and he currently boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in the MBA program. He earned second-team all-conference accolades last fall after averaging 42.3 yards on 51 punts, with 20 that pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line, 11 that sailed 50-plus yards, and 25 that resulted in a fair catch.

🔼 The Hart of the Operation. This summer, UTSA Athletics has been profiling its numerous areas to provide an inside look into how each unit serves Roadrunners’ student-athletes.
In this edition, they sat down with Mac Hart, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Affairs, to discuss the Business Operations unit.
Q: How does your unit service UTSA student-athletes and the UTSA Athletics department?
Mac Hart: “We don’t do a lot directly with the student-athletes; we work behind the scenes. We help the coaches keep the trains running on schedule and make sure equipment is ordered and inventoried and paid on time. Athletes may not be cognizant of what we do for them because we work in the background but I think we do play a significant role in providing them the best experience that UTSA Athletics can...”

🔼 Upward Trend 📈. UTSA’s first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference saw the Roadrunners set impressive attendance, ticket sales, and social media reach metrics across all sports during the 2023-24 academic year.
After a fall season that saw UTSA lead the AAC in soccer attendance, set a program record in volleyball attendance and record the fourth-highest attendance in UTSA football history, the positive trajectory continued through the winter and spring sports seasons.

🔼 ‘Runner Retrospective ⏮. Throwing it back to when Elyssa Coleman and Jordyn Jenkins became the first UTSA duo to record a double-double in the same game since 2021!
🔼 Partnering Up. UTSA Athletics has announced a partnership with Wendy’s, a globally acclaimed fast-food hamburger chain. Best known for its made-to-order square hamburgers using fresh, never-frozen beef, Wendy’s is now the Presenting Sponsor of UTSA Women’s Athletics.
Elements of the partnership include in-game activations and sponsored social media content at UTSA women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball events beginning with the upcoming 2024-25 season.
