Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. Twenty-one students affiliated with UTSA Athletics are part of the university’s Honors College. This includes 15 student-athletes, four members of the cheer program, and two student athletic trainers.

The UTSA Honors College is a community of more than 2,300 curious and committed students. The Honors College’s experiential approach helps students of all majors become leaders, develop as professionals, and intellectually achieve beyond coursework. Admission to the Honors College is on an invitation-only basis at the time of application to UTSA.

🔼 Tribe’s Time. UTSA volleyball newcomer Ally Tribe has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, marking back-to-back weeks where a Roadrunner has claimed the accolade. She joins classmate Martina Franco as a 2024 honoree.

Tribe impressed at the Roadrunner Classic, cracking the all-tournament team after posting 3.80 kills per set across contests with Alabama and Sam Houston. She posted 16 kills against the Crimson Tide before logging 22 terminations at a .287 clip against the Bearkats. Tribe also recorded a pair of service aces for 44.0 points and charted eight blocks and eight digs.

🔼 Sunny Days Ahead. ROWDY TOWN LIVE! Catch three-time Grammy winner Sunny Sauceda on Saturday at H-E-B Plaza! The performance is set to start at 12:30 p.m. following the Spirit Walk.

🔼 Boomerang…er, Runner. Newly-hired UTSA men’s tennis coach Sasha Gozun has announced that one of UTSA’s past stars will also be part of shaping the program's future, as Gozun has hired former Roadrunner Joao Ceolin to be his assistant coach. Ceolin arrives back at UTSA after competing professionally in ATP and ITF circuits.

With 47 singles wins in a tie for the fifth most-winning player in program history, Ceolin ranked as high as No. 65 nationally in his senior season and earned three Conference USA Player of the Week honors and a CUSA Athlete of the Month laurel across his final two playing seasons. Ceolin also secured 43 wins in doubles across his Roadrunners career.

The Roadrunners are looking ahead to seven additional fall events, including the NCAA’s move this season to host conference and NCAA individual championships in the fall.

🔼 Scuttlebutt With the Pirates, Part Two. UTSA’s American Athletic Conference opener at East Carolina on Sept. 28 will kick off at 3 PM CST and air on ESPN+.

The Roadrunners and Pirates will meet for the second straight season as league foes and for the first time at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. In the inaugural meeting between the two teams, UTSA scored a 41-27 home triumph over ECU on Oct. 28, 2023, at the Alamodome.

🔼 Twice as Nice. Congratulations to Ekua Youri & Arina Babenko on winning the Jake Frederick Open doubles A Draw with a 7-5 victory over TAMU-CC! Youri is also the Blue Draw Singles winner, 6-4, 6-3!
