UTSA Volleyball to soon visit two-time defending national champion Texas in an exhibition match

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA volleyball team will visit two-time defending national champion Texas in an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 17. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CST inside Gregory Gymnasium in Austin.
The two teams previously met in a spring exhibition at the Convocation Center, which saw 2,750-plus fans pack the facility as UTSA took two sets off the Longhorns.
Under UTSA head coach Carol Price-Torok, the Roadrunners concluded the 2023 campaign with a 15-15 record, the most victories in a single season since 2019.
Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott wrapped up his 23rd season leading the Longhorns to their fifth national championship and third under his direction. He is the winningest coach in school history.

πΌ A Venerable Venue. The UTSA soccer program's August 18 home matchup with the crosstown UIW Cardinals will officially move to San Antonio FCβs Toyota Field, making it a huge night for San Antonio soccer, Roadrunners, and Cardinals fans alike.
In the second regular season game of the 2024 campaign for both programs, UTSA and UIW will square off for just the second-ever meeting between these programs in the regular season, set to kick off at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Toyota Field, home to United Soccer League (USL) professional soccer franchise San Antonio FC (SAFC).
"This is huge for women's Soccer in San Antonio!β said head coach Derek Pittman. βOur staff and players are elated to partner with SAFC and have the opportunity to play in front of our UTSA fans at Toyota Field.β
πΌ The Chase is On. UTSA junior place-kicker Chase Allen has landed on the watch list for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. He is one of 30 players and the only one from the American Athletic Conference chosen for this yearβs preseason watch list.
A transfer from Alabama, Allen made an immediate impact in his first season with the Roadrunners by earning second-team all-conference honors in 2023. He made 13 of 15 field goals and all 49 extra-point attempts, totaling 88 points and ranking 14th in the FBS with a league-best .867 field-goal percentage.

Mason Lytle: "I chose UTSA for many reasons, the main one being the relationship I built with the coaches and the trust I had in them before I even got here. It is also within three hours of my hometown, which is great. My family gets to watch a lot of games."
Q: What do you like most about being a student-athlete at UTSA?
Mason Lytle: "I like the engagement that each sport has with other sports."
