🔼 Good Stuff Right Here. UTSA senior wide receiver De’Corian “JT” Clark has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. The Fort Worth native was a member of the watch list for both the Wuerffel Trophy and Allstate Good Works Team in 2023.
College football’s premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service.
Clark has been heavily involved in community service during his time at UTSA. A founding member of Black Athletes Striving for Excellence (BASE), he serves as the organization’s public relations chair and has helped host numerous events through his involvement.
🔼 Rally Caps Optional, Good Intent Mandatory. UTSA Athletics has announced the launch of the Roadrunner Rally and Tickets for Troops donation programs.
"With the launch of the Roadrunner Rally and Tickets for Troops programs, we're thrilled to bring the community together in support of local organizations and our dedicated military members," said Dr. Brad Smith, UTSA Deputy AD for External Affairs.
As part of the Roadrunner Rally program, Tickets for Troops will benefit military members, their families, and related organizations within Military City USA to be enjoyed during the Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans game on November 15.
🔼 A Huge Hit. Coach Carol Price Torok announced the newest member of the 2024 coaching staff on Thursday, as former Arkansas outside hitter and current Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) Champion Maggie Cartwright joins the squad.
Cartwright spent five stellar seasons at Arkansas, receiving American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region and NCAA All-Tournament status while recording 1,276 total kills, the 12th-most in Razorback history.
Cartwright also has extensive club coaching experience. She spent five years with the Northwest Arkansas Junior Storm Volleyball Club and gives personalized one-on-one lessons in her spare time.
🔼 Let’s Rattle Their Cages. Heading into the start of the 2024 season, UTSA soccer has announced an addition to the home schedule. The St. Mary’s (TX) Rattlers will come to Park West on Sunday, Aug. 25, for the first-ever regular-season meeting with the Roadrunners. With the addition of the home contest, UTSA will no longer travel to Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 5.
UTSA and St. Mary’s will square off with a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Park West Athletics Complex in the first series meeting between these teams.
🔼 In Sweeping Fashion. The UTSA cheer team and Rowdy turned in their best-ever performances this month at the National Cheerleaders Association College Camp in Dallas.
All of UTSA’s teams that competed in the NCA College Camp earned bids to nationals. The All-Girl squad swept the camp for the first time in program history, earning a Gold Bid to nationals. They were named Most Collegiate, and members of this squad earned 10 All-America honors.
In addition, the All-Girl squad that represented UTSA competed in a runoff that included Texas Tech, North Texas, Houston, and Lubbock Christian. The Roadrunners beat each team in the runoff, marking the first time in school history for a Roadrunner victory.
🤔 UTSA TRIVIA
A Rowdy Year, IndeedWhat year did Rowdy the Roadrunner become the official UTSA mascot? |
🤙 ONE BIG THING
Habits Form the Foundation. Newly-crowned UTSA MBB Coach Austin Claunch's unofficial (perhaps soon to be official!?) motto seems to be, “Never shy away from the work.” And if the videos on X are any indication, he and his team are walking the walk.
