Good morning. UTSA men’s basketball head coach, Austin Claunch, was formally introduced today as the team’s leader in a press conference at UTSA Park West Fieldhouse. After the official announcement was made on March 17, Claunch can now get to work preparing his team for the 2024-25 season.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Senior Day Sweep. In the final match of the UTSA women’s tennis senior’s collegiate careers, the Roadrunners swept Lamar, 7-0, for the team’s 16th win of the season. The victory improved the team’s record at home to 9-0 on the season, the first undefeated record in 32 years. After securing the doubles point, all but one singles match finished in straight sets.

The Roadrunners now await to see what seed they have earned for the upcoming American Athletic Conference Championships, which is taking place on April 17-21 at SMU’s campus in Dallas, Texas.

🔼 An Honor It Is. Four members of the Roadrunner football team, Trumane Bell II, Oscar Cardenas, Cade Collenback and Lucas Dean, were named to the 2024 NFF Hampshire Honor Society. The Hampshire Honor Society is made up of college football players from all divisions of college football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. After this year’s selections, a total of 19 UTSA football players have received the honor.

🔼 Taking On Tigers. UTSA baseball team returns to the diamond for American Athletic Conference action, facing the Memphis Tigers in a three-game road series. The series opens with a 6 p.m. Friday start, while Saturday’s first pitch is at 2 p.m. and the series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Roadrunners have won all three of its conference series thus far, and lead the AAC in batting average (.315), hits (368) and runs (248).

🔼 Battle With The Bobcats. Roadrunner softball is set to face Charlotte in a three-game AAC series at home this weekend, beginning with Greek Night on Friday at 6 p.m. The squads will then meet in a Saturday Ovarian Cancer Awareness showdown at 1 p.m. before an Alumni Day finale on Sunday at noon. 

Senior Jamie Gilbert enters the matchup topping The American in complete games with 11 on the year. She is third in innings pitched (113.0), fourth in total appearances (27), and fourth in strikeouts (84). Senior Taylor Jensen joins her as a league leader, catching 11 base runners stealing, a figure that also sits 12th nationally.

🤙 ONE BIG THING

ICYMI: The UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game, an official Fiesta San Antonio event, will be held this weekend at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Alamodome. Here are a couple of things to note for fans attending:

  • Parking will be available for no charge in Lot C.

  • Admission is free and doors will open to the public at 1 p.m.

  • Ms. Fiesta Ciara Davila, a current senior student at UTSA, and the Fiesta Commission Executive Board led by President Richard Sparr, will be recognized on the field. UTSA’s Spirit of San Antonio marching band will perform and brand-new UTSA head men’s basketball coach Austin Claunch will be introduced to the crowd.

  • There will be a 15-minute autograph session following the game on the field

  • Listen to Sports Radio AM 760 The Ticket for a live radio broadcast of the game in the San Antonio area.
