🔼 Soggy Sunday Takedown! A rainy Sunday non-conference finale turned into an offensive bright spot for the UTSA soccer team (4-2-2), which put the finishing touches on the week with a 3-0 victory over visiting East Texas A&M (3-4-0) at the Park West Athletics Complex. Among the eight non-conference contests, UTSA secured a shutout in six outings, maintaining its position among the nation’s elite defenses.

⚽️: RECAP

🔼 Put Some Pep in Your Step. UTSA Athletics and UIW Athletics are set to host a joint pep rally at Pearl Amphitheater tomorrow at 7 p.m. in advance of Saturday’s Hometown Showdown. It is free and open to the public.

The pep rally will feature performances from the Spirit of San Antonio and UIW Marching Cardinals bands. Representatives from both the UTSA and UIW football programs will be in attendance, along with both cheer squads, Rowdy and Red the Cardinal.

🔼 In Sweeping Fashion. UTSA closes out the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-17) win over Lindenwood on Saturday, Sept. 6. The ‘Runners’ picked up their first sweep of the season in their second win.

Top Stats:

- Caroline Tredwell led the team in kills, notching 10, which is her second double-digit kill match of the season.
- Megan Hawkins led the team in assists with 17.
- Peyton Turner led the team in digs with a total of 14.

🔼 The Roadrunner Way. UTSA has been accepted into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the San Antonio Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ), which recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who are members of an association or organization that promotes academic achievement and varsity-level athletics competition while holding commitment to the principles of integrity, sportsmanship and overall development of their student-athletes.

ℹ️: LEARN MORE

🔼 Carving His Own Path. Born in Liberia, Owen Pewee never imagined he would play American football. Still, his journey has taken him from West Africa to being one of the highest-rated players ever to sign with the UTSA Football program.

Moving to Texas at the age of 6, Pewee gravitated toward the sport of basketball. For fun, he would play football with his friends in the parks of Cypress on Houston’s northwest side without ever expecting a future on the gridiron. His peers encouraged him otherwise.

Watching their son play American football for the first time, Pewee’s parents, who were unfamiliar with the sport, were taken aback by the game's physicality.

“When they first came to the games, they were like, ‘You’re too violent; you’re going to hurt somebody,’” Pewee said. “But I told them about the game and, after a couple of games watching it, they got used to it.”

Pewee went on to star as a linebacker at Cypress Park High School, where he was a consensus three-star prospect.

🔼 Summer’s Fall Lineup. UTSA will tee off the 2025-26 season today and tomorrow, Sept. 8-9, when they travel to Corinth, Texas, for the Sam Golden Invitational, which North Texas will host at Oakmont Country Club (par 72/6,343 yards). The field will play 36 holes today, with the final round scheduled for tomorrow.

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Lauren Rios, Sydney Bisgrove, Kayla Black and Victoria Schuldt. Head coach Summer Batiste welcomes back five veterans for her ninth season at the helm of the program.

🔼 Linking Up in Louisiana. The UTSA men’s golf team will tee off the fall campaign at the Argent Financial Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech through Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Squire Creek Country Club (par 72/7,105 yards) in Choudrant, Louisiana. The field will play 18 holes each day.

The Roadrunners have a lineup of Joshua Hong, Logan Vargas, Brayden Bare, Francisco Solorza and Jacob King. UTSA is entering its fourth season under the direction of head coach Matt Wernecke, who welcomes back five veterans from last year’s team that registered four top-10 finishes.

🤙🏼 ONE BIG THING

It’s Never Too Early to Get Some Swings In. Let’s have a repeat of last season, shall we, crew?
