🔼 Eh, You Go First. Since UTSA Volleyball is headed for Houston, they figured they’d give drawing the state of Texas a whirl. Needless to say, some laughter ensued.

🔼 Let’s Motor. The UTSA Roadrunners cross country teams competed in the team’s only out-of-region competition on Saturday, taking on the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Challenge. The Roadrunners women finished sixth out of 16 teams with an average 6k time of 22:53. The men’s team was seventh out of 13 with an 8k average of 26:26.

Next on the schedule, UTSA is back in the Lone Star State and on to Texas A&M’s Arturo Barrios Invitational on October 18, giving the Roadrunners an in-season preview of the NCAA Regional site at Watts Cross Country Course.

🔼 A Bit Short. The UTSA soccer team (6-5-1, 1-3 AAC) went shot for shot with Rice (9-3-1, 3-1-0 AAC) at Park West in Sunday’s Salute to First Responders, but the Owls were able to net the game-winner early in the second half, holding on for the 1-0 result.

An offsides call stopped UTSA from getting on the board early off an Olivia Alvarez chip-in.

“Credit to Rice for playing with a lot of confidence right now and playing very effectively at what they do, and they have a key player scoring goals,” said head coach Derek Pittman. “I was proud of our players for their attitude and effort from the opening whistle…”

⇢⇢ Listen to Coach Pittman UTSA head soccer coach Derek Pittman talk about the special significance of UTSA's Salute to First Responders, as his father was a firefighter in Tulsa when he was growing up. 👨🏽‍🚒

🔼 Is This Heaven? No, It’s Iowa. The UTSA women’s golf team will continue its fall slate today and tomorrow, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, at the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course (par 72/6,437 yards) in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Roadrunners will travel a lineup of Daniela Abonce, Maria Bastarrica, Sydney Bisgrove, Morgan Ellison, and Olivia Williams for their third of five fall tournaments.

UTSA will line up against Bowling Green, Drake, Iowa, Missouri State, Montana State, North Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma City, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, UAB, UTRGV, and Wisconsin.

🔼 A Story of Two Halves. Zah Frazier had two interceptions, and UTSA posted 456 yards of offense. Still, East Carolina rallied from a 10-point deficit for a 30-20 victory in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

The Roadrunners (2-3, 0-1) built a 13-3 first-half lead but the Pirates scored 24 unanswered points and held off a late UTSA rally to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Roadrunners will have this weekend off before returning to league play with a road game against Rice on Saturday, Oct. 12.

🔼 Blip on the Road Radar. The UTSA Volleyball team could not overcome a potent Rice squad, falling 25-17, 25-15, 25-14 in American Athletic Conference action inside Tudor Fieldhouse on Sunday.

The Roadrunners (6-9, 0-2 The American) fell to the Owls (7-4, 2-0 The American) as senior Aliah Giroux led the match with 12 digs. UTSA will look to bounce back on Friday as they take on East Carolina in Greenville at 5 PM CST, ahead of a noon match at Charlotte the following Sunday.
