Good Morning, Roadrunners Fam. Shad Banks Jr. came up with two of UTSA’s four takeaways and Robert Henry Jr. registered his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game to help the Roadrunners roll past No. 8 (FCS) UIW, 48-20, on Saturday afternoon at the Alamodome.

Banks had his second interception of the season and recovered a fumble to go with five solo tackles to help the Roadrunners (1-2) record their first win of the campaign and second in two all-time meetings with the Cardinals (1-2). Davin Martin logged his first career pick and Jimmy Wyrick had a fumble recovery, as UTSA forced four turnovers on the day.

Henry rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns — including a 74-yard dash on the third play from scrimmage of the third quarter — on only 14 attempts, good for an average of 10.3 yards per carry. The leading rusher in the FBS entering today’s contest, the senior from Mississippi now boasts 144-plus rushing yards, two rushing TDs and a run of at least 74 yards in each of his last five outings.

🔼 Henry’s Second Chance. Sitting on the team plane bound for San Antonio following last season’s regular-season finale at Army, UTSA running back Robert Henry, Jr., was convinced he had played his final collegiate snap for the Roadrunners.

A year ago, UTSA’s leading rusher, Robert Henry, Jr., averaging 64.2 yards per game and totaling 706 net rushing yards, suffered several sprains to his ankle in what he thought was his Senior Day game against Temple on Nov. 22. He had hoped to play in the game at Army, but soon realized during warmups that it wasn’t going to be possible.

What he didn’t know was that the NCAA was considering a blanket waiver that would allow former junior college players across the country an additional season of eligibility. Henry has certainly made the most of his opportunities. Entering this weekend, he is the leading rusher in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 336 total rushing yards, an average of 168 per game. His 15.0 points scored per game rank third nationally.

🔼 A Killer Weekend. UTSA finished up the UND/NDSU Tournament with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 23-25, 25-21) victory over the Idaho Vandals on Friday, Sept. 12, at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse in Fargo, N.D.

Noteworthy Stats:
- Ally Tribe recorded 22 kills and 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
- Caroline Tredwell had 12 kills for her second double-digit kill game of the season.
- Megan Hawkins grabbed her third double-double with 32 assists and 14 digs.

🔼 Aaaaaand They’re Off. The UTSA cross country team officially kicked off the 2025 campaign on Friday, with the men placing fourth and the women eighth on the Windcrest Golf Course as a part of the UIW Invitational.

The men posted an average time of 20:33 in the 4-mile, led by freshman Ethan Carranza, who clocked in at 20:05.8 and placed 13. Not far behind, senior O.J. Ruiz was 16th at 20:15.2.

In the women’s 5k, freshman Jocelyn Karry used a 30th-place finish and a time of 19:05.0 to propel the group to an average of 20:24.

🔼 Mak is Back. Setter Makenna Wiepert discusses her gratitude to the trainers who motivated her during her recovery journey, especially on days when she didn’t feel like putting in the work but did anyway.

“I’m just so excited to play volleyball again,” Wiepert said. “It’s been a long year.”
