🔼 Par For Daniela’s Course. Daniela Abonce finished in a tie for fourth place, and UTSA grabbed a share of eighth place with the second-best team score in program history at the Sam Golden Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club (par 72/6,343 yards). The ‘Runners finished 11 shots ahead of Central Arkansas and only nine strokes out of the runner-up position in the 13-team field.

Abonce carded an 8-under-par 208 to earn her fifth career top 10 and notch her third-best 54-hole total as a Roadrunner. She turned in a pair of sub-70 rounds to push her UTSA career tally to 12 and help the Roadrunners to a 15-under 849, the second-best 54-hole team score in school history behind the 837 posted at this same event two years ago.

🔼 ‘Runners’ One-Two Punch. Brayden Bare and Joshua Hong each fired a 3-under-par 69 to lead UTSA in the final round of the Argent Financial Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club (par 72/7,105 yards).

Bare was one shot off his collegiate career best posted twice during the American Conference Championship this past April, while Hong notched a one-shot improvement over the pair of 70s he turned in during the first two rounds of his collegiate debut this week. Hong was UTSA’s top finisher overall, earning a tie for ninth place at 7-under 209. The freshman from Guadalajara, Mexico, was only three strokes out of a tie for fifth in the 99-player field.

🔼 It’s a Classic. UTSA men’s basketball and officials from the multi-team event announced on Tuesday that the Roadrunners will compete in the 2025 Jacksonville Classic this fall in Florida. For this year’s Jacksonville Classic, each team will play two games, and game times/matchups are TBA.

The Jacksonville Classic, billed as one of the nation’s premier early-season college basketball tournaments, will be held Nov. 23-25 at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex of Edward Waters University, which was founded as Florida's first independent institution for higher education in 1866.

🏀: THE FIELD

🔼 Let’s Play in Puerto Vallarta! On Tuesday, Triple Crown Sports officially announced that the UTSA softball team would join Southern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and Long Beach State in competition at the 10th annual Puerto Vallarta Challenge, which will span Feb. 11-14, 2026, at Nancy Almaraza Stadium in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

This will mark the first time the softball team competes internationally, and it’s just the second occasion they’ve left the continental United States; their last international trip was to the Hawaii Tournament in 1997.

🔼 Lights, Kam, Action. For the second time this season, a UTSA soccer Roadrunner has garnered major weekly honors from the American Conference, as Kamryn Watson has been named American Freshman of the Week. In addition, senior Zoё May and redshirt senior Kameron Kloza received Honorable Mention in the weekly accolades.

Watson (Baton Rouge, La.) scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 shutout win over UIW on Thursday at San Antonio FC’s Toyota Field, pacing the Roadrunners to remain a perfect 3-0 in the Hometown Showdown. The freshman scored the lone goal of the contest in the 37th minute for her first career score.

🤙🏼 ONE BIG THING

What’s On the Tube? WE ARE! Mountain West Conference officials announced on Monday that UTSA’s non-conference finale against Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 20, has been selected for a national television broadcast on FS1. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. MT at Canvas Stadium.

With this selection, six of UTSA’s games on the 2025 regular season schedule have been picked up for linear or digital broadcast. The Roadrunners have two Thursday night broadcasts on either ESPN or ESPN2.

ℹ TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Taylor Gaines!

True freshman outside hitter, Taylor Gaines, earned freshman player of the week, the American announced on Monday. Gaines had a breakout week as she tallied the second-most kills on the team with 36 to her name. She is the first Roadrunner to earn a conference weekly award this season and the third UTSA volleyball player to earn American freshman player of the week, joining the likes of Ally Tribe and Martina Franco, who each won the award in last season’s campaign.

🤙🏼 Enjoy your week, Roadrunner Nation!
