🔼 Ace Attack. UTSA volleyball picked up its first win of the season Saturday, outlasting SIU Edwardsville in five sets at Arkansas' Barnhill Arena. The Roadrunners were lethal at the service line, matching a program record for total aces on the day. Redshirt freshman Sydney Bryant powered the offense with a career-high 21 kills, including the 20th and 21st to close out the fifth set, while Valeria Ortiz led the ace parade with five. Ally Tribe chipped in a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, and Giada Obregon anchored the defense with 20 digs.

🔼 Welcome to UTSA. UTSA track &field and cross country welcomes three new athletes, including Judson High School product Ana Garza. As a senior, she became the first Rocket to qualify for the Texas UIL 6A State Cross Country Championships since 1992, and her school-record 5k personal best of 18:43.0 came in nearly a full minute faster than the previous mark. Garza also graduated with a 4.0 and eight Academic All-District awards between cross country and track.

UTSA also announced the signing of 10-time junior college All-American Meryeme Mai. The native of Morocco closed out her career at Garden City Community College with a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter at the 2026 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, plus a fourth-place finish in the 5,000m and fifth in the 1500m. She holds Broncbuster records in the 3,000m, 5,000m, 1,500m, and 10,000m.

Finally, Haley Hill joins the UTSA distance corps for the 2026-27 season. Hill was the District 16-6A 3,200-meter champion in 2024 and helped Bridgeland High School to a UIL cross country state championship in 2025, along with a Nike NXR Nationals qualification and an appearance at the New Balance RunningLane XC Championships. She brings personal bests of 2:25.16 in the 800m, 5:14.91 in the 1,600m, 11:18.34 in the 3,200m, and 18:29.20 in the cross country 5k.

🔼 New Leader. UTSA has named Nick Castro the seventh head coach of its men's tennis program. Castro arrives in San Antonio after three seasons as an assistant at Air Force, where he helped the Falcons to wins over three ranked opponents and signed a pair of top-10 mid-major recruiting classes, including the nation's No. 1 recruit in 2024. Before that, he served as head tennis coach at IMG Academy and spent a year as the full-time touring coach for ATP pro Mitchell Krueger. An introductory digital press conference is set for Sept. 9 at noon CT on ESPN+.

🔼 Locked In. UTSA men’s hoops is showing up and showing out on the hardwood this fall.

🔼 Sounds of Basketball. Does anything sound better than UTSA women’s basketball back on the court?
