Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. Mark your calendars. UTSA Football Fan Day is set for Saturday, Aug. 16, from 1-3 p.m. CT at the Convocation Center. Admission is free.

It is the perfect time to bring the whole family and fans of all ages out to the UTSA Main Campus to meet this year’s football team.

UTSA Football Fan Day will feature an autograph session with players, inflatables, face painting, and appearances by UTSA Cheer and Rowdy. Head Coach Jeff Traylor also will address the crowd to give insight on the upcoming season.

🔼 Good Beyond the Gridiron. UTSA redshirt junior Camron Cooper has been named a nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.

Cooper is one of a record-breaking 197 nominees selected for this year’s award, the most in the award’s 34-year history. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field.

🔼 The Core Four. Four members of the UTSA football team have landed on the Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Teams.

Owen McCown was chosen as Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and a second-team selection at quarterback, while Robert Henry Jr. was a first-team honoree at running back. Cory Godinet and Kamar Missouri each earned second-team nods on the offensive line.

🔼 Veep Values. UTSA Athletics is a national leader in supporting first-generation student-athletes. Throughout the 2025-26 school year, GoUTSA.com will spotlight the department’s first-generation student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff. 

Lisa Campos was named UTSA’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics on November 17, 2017. A first-generation college graduate, Campos earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Colorado State University and her Ed.D. from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a first-generation college graduate?  

Lisa Campos: “Growing up, my parents always instilled the importance of education for me. As they did not receive a formal education, they wanted a much better life for me. They knew that education would really change the trajectory of my life. They knew that education would open doors for me later in life. I was really fortunate that they always talked about how important getting a college degree is.”

Make That TWO Big Things. Zach Royse was selected in the seventh round by the Atlanta Braves and Braylon Owens was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday, July 14.

Royse was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the seventh round as the 217th overall pick. He became the 43rd Roadrunner to be selected in the MLB Draft. Owens was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round as the 305th overall pick. Owens is the third Roadrunner to be drafted by the Brewers, joining the likes of Ryan Arevalos, who went in round 30, and Ryan Crew who went in round 40.
