Good Morning, UTSA Fam. UTSA baseball made history at the 2026 MLB Draft, with Connor Kelley (Toronto, Round 14), Robert Orloski (Los Angeles Angels, Round 16), and Lane Haworth (Philadelphia Phillies, Round 18) all selected, giving the program three straight draft picks in back-to-back years and doubling head coach Pat Hallmark's total to six.

American Conference Player of the Year Drew Detlefsen also signed with the San Diego Padres as an undrafted free agent after leading UTSA in nine offensive categories, including a .386 average, 14 home runs, and 70 RBI.

🔼 Runners Excel In The Classroom. UTSA student-athletes posted a record-setting spring semester, with a 3.17 average team GPA and an overall department GPA of 3.23. Twelve of 15 teams hit a 3.0 or better for the semester, 37 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0, and nearly 63% received academic honors at the Honor Roll level or higher.

🔼 A New Season. Coach Jeff Traylor, quarterback Owen McCown and linebacker Owen Pewee will represent UTSA at the 2026 American Kickoff in St. Petersburg, Florida from July 23-24. The Roadrunners are scheduled to appear on the ESPN+ live stream at 7:40 a.m. CT on Friday, July 24. Fans can register to attend at theamerican.org/kickoff.

🔼 Academic Honors. UTSA men's tennis earned ITA All-Academic Team honors for the fourth consecutive season, with Ben Chetewy Ungar, Timeo Bretin, Yonatan Sagiv, and Oskar Grzegorzewski named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Chetewy Ungar earned the distinction for the second straight year, while the program has now produced an ITA Scholar-Athlete for eight straight years.

🔼 Getting It Done. Five UTSA women's golfers earned WGCA All-American Scholar honors (Maria Bastarrica, Sydney Bisgrove, Kayla Black, Lauren Rios, and Victoria Schuldt), giving the program 11 honorees over the past two years. Bastarrica earned the distinction for the third time in her career, while Bisgrove and Rios each collected their second.

UTSA redshirt freshman David Guzman won the shot put title at the 2026 NACAC U23 Championships in Mexico, claiming gold on his final attempt with an 18.02m (59-1.5) toss to edge the competition by 0.69m. The Querétaro native has been on a tear internationally, also winning the 2026 Mexican U23 Championship and posting a career-best 18.52m at the Mexican Championships in June, a mark that would rank third all-time at UTSA.
