Brew-1-0 6/8: Coming Alive

Jemuel Miller's comeback story can't be missed.

Good Morning, UTSA Fam. UTSA triple jumper Jemuel Miller heads to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene on Friday carrying one of the most remarkable comeback stories in college track and field. In August 2022, just weeks after earning his second All-America honor as a freshman, Miller was struck by a car while crossing the street near campus, sustaining a broken wrist, bone bruising, and cuts that left his future in the sport uncertain.

Through it all, Miller leaned on associate head coach Kareem Streete-Thompson, whom he calls a father figure, the UTSA sports medicine staff, and a mental health professional to find his way back. This season, he swept the American Conference triple jump titles indoors and outdoors, broke his own UTSA school records in both, and came within one centimeter of the Barbados national record that has stood since 1992.

He enters the NCAA Outdoor Championships ranked 10th in the country with his sights set on a career-best performance and a future in professional track and field.

πŸ”Ό Making An Impact. Former UTSA cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. was named to the All-UFL Team after tying for the league lead with four interceptions and posting a league-best 10 passes defended for the Louisville Kings. The three-time all-conference performer at UTSA helped the Roadrunners to a pair of Conference USA championships and the program's first top-25 ranking during his career from 2018-22.

πŸ”Ό Welcome To UTSA. UTSA men's basketball added 6-foot-3 transfer guard Isaiah Watts from Maryland as its sixth spring signing. Watts appeared in 32 games for the Terrapins last season and previously averaged 11.0 points at Washington State, where he was the lone returning letterman from a 2023-24 NCAA Tournament Second Round squad. Basketball runs in the family; his grandfather Slick Watts was a Seattle SuperSonics guard who reached the 1978 NBA Finals, and his father Donald led the Pac-10 in three-point shooting at Washington.
