Brew-1-0 5/7: Football Turns 15!

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA Football turns 15 in 2025!

UTSA Athletics will engage in a season-long celebration of the 15th year of the Roadrunners’ football program, which first took the field in 2011.

UTSA has achieved remarkable success in its short history, winning six or more games in nine seasons and appearing in six bowl games. Numerous UTSA Football players have gone on to achieve success in the NFL following their time in San Antonio. Zah Frazier recently became the program’s fifth all-time NFL Draft pick.

Under head coach Jeff Traylor, the Roadrunners have participated in five consecutive bowl games with two straight bowl wins and claimed a pair of conference championships.

🔼 High-Stakes Softball. The No. 9 seeded UTSA softball team is set to open postseason play today, with a matchup against No. 8 seeded Tulsa kick-starting the 2025 AAC Softball Championship at 9 a.m. CT at the USF Softball Stadium.

The Roadrunners (21-33, 6-21 The American) enter the event holding the most wins in a single season since 2019, and a 16-15 home record marks the last time the ‘Runners finished with a winning record at home since that campaign.

🔼 ‘Runners Hit the Books. UTSA Athletics has recorded several impressive Academic Progress Rate (APR) figures with Tuesday’s public release of the latest NCAA Division I data.

UTSA boasts eight teams that registered a perfect 1,000 APR for the 2023-24 academic year, while the sports of men’s golf and women’s tennis each have logged a perfect 1,000 multiyear APR. Overall, UTSA reported a 980 APR for the department.

In addition to the perfect multiyear APRs posted by men’s golf and women’s tennis, 11 other sport programs turned in a multiyear rate of 970 or above.

Keeping Pace. Senior triple jumper Rachela Pace has been recognized once again this week by officials from the AAC, the league naming her Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. This also marks the fifth weekly award for the Roadrunners this outdoor season.

Pace recorded a new outdoor career-best measurement at Texas A&M's Alumni Muster, moving up to 11th in the nation in the triple jump with a 13.29m (43-7.25) leap on her second attempt. For her efforts, Pace earned the gold medal in College Station and raised the profile on her existing No. 2 entry into the all-time UTSA performances chart, as well as her standing lead atop the American Athletic Conference.

Former UTSA men’s basketball star Jhivvan Jackson is back in the news, as has been named the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts this season with the FIT/One Würzburg Baskets based in Würzburg, Germany.

As UTSA’s all-time leading scorer, Jackson is one of the most prominently known names in UTSA basketball history, breaking the Conference USA league records for single-season scoring average (26.8 in 2019-20) as a junior and the CUSA marks for career field goals and 3-pointers made as a senior in 2020-21.
