🤙The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics, brought to you by La Panaderia
Good Morning, UTSA Fam. UTSA is moving forward with major enhancements to Roadrunner Field, with a dedicated Baseball Development Center featuring new locker rooms, a player lounge, batting cages, and pitching development spaces set to break ground in early 2027. The project is part of approximately $20 million in phased investments to the baseball and softball facilities under the department's $57 million Bold Champions initiative.

Fan-facing upgrades including premium seating, improved concessions, and enhanced social gathering areas are also in the works. Twenty-two major gifts have already been pledged during the project's silent phase, including more than $500,000 from 18 former players.

🔼 Roadrunner Honors. UTSA headlined the American Conference baseball postseason awards with six all-conference selections, led by senior Drew Detlefsen as Player of the Year and graduate Conor Myles as Pitcher of the Year. Detlefsen ranked among the top 30 nationally in hits (92), total bases (156), RBI (67), runs scored (65), and batting average (.385). Myles became UTSA's first Pitcher of the Year since joining the American, going 9-1 overall and 7-0 in league play with a 3.52 ERA. First Team honors also went to first baseman Caden Miller, catcher Andrew Stucky, and reliever Sam Simmons, while pitcher Connor Kelley earned a Second Team nod.

🔼 Kickoff in the Sunshine. The American Conference is taking its annual Football Kickoff and Media Days to St. Petersburg, Florida, for the first time, set for July 23-24. All 14 head coaches and 28 student-athletes will gather for media availability, content creation, and fan access, with ESPN+ providing live coverage on Friday, July 24. UTSA opens its 2026 slate Sept. 5 against UTRGV at the Alamodome before road trips to Texas State and Texas on consecutive weekends. Head coach Jeff Traylor carries a 53-26 record and an eye-popping 33-5 mark at home into his seventh season, with the Roadrunners winners of their last three bowl games.
🤙🏼 ONE BIG THING

UTSA's Rowdy Creative Agency earned three finalist nods at the 2026 SVG College Sports Media Awards, all in the Outstanding In-Venue Video category. The football 15th Season Intro Video and the home game kickoff video, a celebration of San Antonio culture featuring a mariachi and iconic landmarks like the Alamo and the River Walk, are finalists in the championship division, while the men's basketball intro video, shot at local immersive art experience Hopscotch, is a finalist in the student division. Winners will be announced May 27 at the SVG College Summit in Atlanta.
