Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA baseball team completed the series sweep with the 5-1 victory over Wichita State on Sunday at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. This was the Roadrunners’ second AAC series sweep of the season. 

Caden Miller notched his 10th multi-hit game with two hits on the day. Drew Detlefsen also recorded two hits on the day for his 15th multi-hit game of the season. Jordan Ballin is now on a team-high nine-game hitting streak.

🔼 Manifesting Destiny + Deja Vu = Success. Entering Saturday’s AAC game against UAB, senior Lindsey Davis and her teammates were reminiscing about her breakout game last season against Charlotte in mid-April in which Davis hit two home runs. 

Wouldn’t it be great if UTSA softball’s starting left fielder could do that again, they mused? 

Almost as if they spoke it into existence, Davis replicated her feat in Saturday’s 13-8 win against the Blazers at Roadrunner Field. She finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and three runs scored. The victory gave UTSA its 16th of the season, exceeding the win total from all of last year with 14 contests remaining on the regular-season schedule.

🔼 Senior Day Sunday Success. The UTSA men’s tennis team (11-10) wrapped up the 2025 regular season at home on Sunday afternoon with its fourth consecutive victory. The Roadrunners celebrated seniors Miguel Alonso, Danijal Muminovic and Tiago Torres at the intermission and the trio led UTSA to a 5-2 victory over Grand Canyon (12-6) at UTSA Tennis Center.

🔼 Roadrunner Reboot? The UTSA women’s golf team will compete in the AAC Championship, which will be contested today through Wednesday, April 14-16, at Southern Hills Plantation Club (par 72/6,289 yards) in Brooksville, Florida.

UTSA junior Daniela Abonce will set out to defend her conference crown captured a year ago on this same course. The Veracruz, Mexico, native fired a 9-under-par 207 to become the sixth Roadrunner to win a league title.

🔼 Leaders of the Pack. Saturday wrapped up competition for the UTSA track and field teams on the final day of 44 Farms Team Invitational. The Roadrunners produced a pair of medals in the expansive 31-team field, with O.J. Ruiz and Mia Lien picking up hardware to lead the Roadrunners.

Making the final UTSA men’s performance the top finisher, Ruiz produced a career mark of 9:30.93 in the 3,000m steeplechase for the second-place finish. Earning the bronze, Lien racked up 5,741 points for the program’s second-best all-time heptathlon score – falling just 77 points shy of Ryanne Dupree’s 2007 record.

🔼 The Heart of the Matter. For as long as she can remember, Lauren Rios has wanted to work in the medical field. But a pair of surgeries that the junior on the UTSA women’s golf team experienced has cemented her commitment to give back to others.

When Rios met with a cardiologist in 2019, she was informed she had been born with an atrial septal defect and would need to have heart surgery. Rios decided to have surgery around her high school’s winter holiday break in 2019. She left school a week early to have the surgery so she could be back in time for the start of the spring semester, but Rios’ return to golf took longer.

Upon her return, however, Rios put together a highly impressive athletic and academic career. She helped her high school advance to a pair of state tournaments and finish sixth in the UIL Class 6A state tournament as a senior.
