Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. It’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better example a woman’s sports team that deserves more of the spotlight than the ‘Runners WBB team. And what the squad did Tuesday night at home is the epitome of the grit they’ve shown all season.

The UTSA WBB team survived a dogfight at the top of the AAC, as they narrowly edged past North Texas, 54-52, in the Convo. Redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins led the way with 26 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Idara Udo posted a double-double to the tune of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

⛹🏽‍♀️ : FULL RUNDOWN

Of course, it’s not just the UTSA WBB team that deserves a ton of recognition! 👇🏼

🔼 Be ‘Runner BOLD. From UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos on the roadmap for the BOLD approach to the future: 👇🏼

Dear Roadrunner Family,

As we kick off 2025, I want to express my immense excitement about the future of UTSA Athletics. It’s no secret that college athletics is experiencing significant change at a rapid pace. While this transformation may bring challenges to programs across the nation, the opportunity to directly support our student-athletes on their academic journeys has never been greater.

Specifically, NIL (Name, Image and Likeness), conference realignment, the transfer portal and the House v. NCAA proposed settlement have – and will – all dramatically modify the ways in which we operate. If the House settlement is fully approved this spring, which we anticipate, it will change the collegiate model.

UTSA Athletics is well prepared for this moment and we will continue to be proactive in our efforts to adapt and thrive in this new landscape.

🔼 It’s Go Time. The UTSA MBB team (10-11, 4-5 AAC) is looking to bring the same momentum into their second AAC rematch as in the first, when the Roadrunners dispatched North Texas in Denton on Saturday in their second meeting of the year.

Tonight, the Roadrunners host Tulane (12-10, 6-3 AAC) after traveling to the Green Wave in the AAC opener at the beginning of January, with the Orange Out game tipping off at 7 p.m. at the Convo.

As if you needed added incentive to attend, but we’re giving it to you anyway! 👇🏼

🔼 No Yips About It. David Martinez finished in a tie for 10th place and UTSA placed fifth at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 72/6,701 yards).

Martinez registered his first career top-10 finish by turning in a 2-over-par 218 for the 54-hole event. The freshman from Houston opened the week with consecutive rounds of 1-over 73 before closing with an even-par 72 today.

The Roadrunners wrapped up the tournament with their best team score of the week, a 5-over 293.

🔼 A PR in PR. Led by an even-par scorecard from Morgan Ellison, UTSA moved up the leaderboard on the final day of the Puerto Rico Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday at Grand Reserve Golf Club (par 72/6,305 yards).

Entering the day in 17th place, the Roadrunners registered their best team round of the week with a 6-over-par 294 to climb two spots into a share of 15th with No. 42 Minnesota in a field that included a dozen top-50 teams. UTSA finished with an 897 (305-298-294), four shots ahead of Kent State (901) and 14 in front of UNC Wilmington (911).

🔼 Rise and Grind This Black History Month. "I think it's very important, especially for young Black kids, looking up and seeing people that look like them in higher places. It inspires them to grind and strive for success." - Devin Mccuin, UTSA Football, on Black History Month
