Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA women's basketball team made history on Saturday, as they recovered from a 14-point deficit in the second half to secure a 70-61 AAC victory over Temple in what represented a program-record 12th straight win in the Convocation Center.

UTSA trailed by 11 a minute into the fourth before an 11-0 run featuring five points for redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins and consecutive three-pointers by junior Sidney Love and graduate student Nina De Leon Negron. Clutch plays by junior Cheyenne Rowe, Jenkins, and sophomore Idara Udo handed UTSA a 62-60 edge that they never relinquished.

🔼 Hard Earned Hardwood Dub + Coach Claunch’s Century Mark. Saturday’s rematch at the Super Pit between the UTSA men’s basketball team (10-11, 4-5 AAC) and the North Texas Mean Green (16-4, 7-2 AAC) was an absolute nail-biter in every sense of the word. The Roadrunners triumphed, 54-50, in a game with multiple layers of consequence – as the second-straight win for UTSA in Denton, the first North Texas loss at home this season, defeating an opponent tied for first in the conference, in an in-state rivalry game for head coach Austin Claunch’s 100th career victory. Not to mention that a career-high scoring game for Raekwon Horton set the Roadrunners right onto the path in the first half.

🏀 : FULL RUNDOWN

🔼 An Auspicious Start. UTSA Roadrunners defeat Abilene Christian 6-1 on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the UTSA Tennis Center to mark Head Coach Ki Kroll’s best start to a season. UTSA has now outscored their opponents by a combined score of 34-4.

🔼 Have Clubs, Will Travel. UTSA has opened the spring season with the Puerto Rico Classic, which will be hosted by Purdue at Grand Reserve Golf Club (par 72/6,305 yards) and will run through tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 4), in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The field plays 18 holes each day.

UTSA will look to continue their momentum from their fall campaign, during which the team recorded three top-five team finishes under the direction of head coach Summer Batiste.

🔼 Squadding Up. The identity of this year’s UTSA Women’s Basketball team, which on Saturday defeated Temple 70-61 to earn its school-record 12th consecutive home victory, isn’t based on a handful of players who score the most points. The Roadrunners opened February by winning their 18th game – matching the 2023-24 edition’s win total – with the total-team effort that has characterized its historic season.

🗣 “We don’t have bench players, it’s just people that don’t start. Every time they’re on the bench, the energy is good. They’re locked in, they want to play and they’re ready.”

🔼 Have Clubs, Will Travel—Part Two. UTSA has teed off its spring season at the Vaqueros Intercollegiate, which will be hosted by UTRGV through tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 4), at Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 72/6,701 yards) in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The field will play 18 holes each day with a shotgun start scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Central time all three days.

Kaelen Dulany led the team in scoring average last fall with a 73.25 mark. The sophomore transfer from Keller, Texas, posted a pair of top-25 finishes, including a tie for 17th at The Clerico after he carded a 219 (76-73-70).

🔼 Blood, Sweat, and (Good) Tears. The UTSA men’s tennis team (2-1) gutted out a road victory on Sunday, earning the 4-3 victory over the UT Arlington Mavericks (0-4), with Tiago Torres clinching the decisive point for the Roadrunners second win.

The doubles point proved to set the tone for the day, but the Roadrunners secured the early point despite split courts. On the top flight, Miguel Alonso and Torres opened the scoring with a 6-3 win over Federico Garbero and Yazid Lahjomri.

In singles action, the Roadrunners fell behind by a point after two consecutive UTA wins, but Ben Chetewy Ungar knotted things up with a fifth-court victory over Lahjomri, 6-0, 6-4.
