The Roadrunners racked up 681 yards of offense in Friday night's win over North Texas

🤙🏼 The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics, brought to you by Cowboy’s AC & Heating

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA used a balanced offensive attack to set a school record for total yards, and Zah Frazier picked off two passes for the second time this season to help guide the Roadrunners to a 48-27 victory over North Texas in conference action on Friday night at the Alamodome.

The ‘Runners racked up 681 yards of offense on the night, rushing for a season-high 302 yards and passing for 379 in their fourth straight win over the Mean Green (5-5, 2-4 AAC). UTSA improved to 5-5 on the season and 3-3 in the league. The Roadrunners also ran their home record to 28-3 (.903) under fifth-year head coach Jeff Traylor.

🔼 No “Miner” Feat. Behind a sensational second-half effort by redshirt senior Jordyn Jenkins, the UTSA women’s basketball team erased an 11-point halftime deficit en route to a 78-73 victory over UTEP in nonconference action at the Don Haskins Center.

The Roadrunners (3-1, 0-0 The American) took down the Miners (2-1, 0-0 CUSA), as Jenkins recorded 30 points, 28 of which came in the second half. The Renton, Washington native also pulled down 12 rebounds for a season-high and her third double-double of the campaign.

🔼 No Shocker Here. The UTSA volleyball program concluded the 2024 campaign with their third straight win on Sunday, as they bested Wichita State 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 26-24 in AAC action inside Charles Koch Arena.

The Roadrunners (11-18, 5-11 The American) bested the Shockers (15-13, 10-6 The American), as sophomore Peyton Turner recorded a match-high 21 digs and junior Caroline Krueger managed 10. Classmate Mia Soerensen racked up 21 kills with five blocks, while sophomore Kai Bailey issued nine successful attacks and swatted eight of the opposition’s attacks.

🔼 C-C Comes Full Circle. It feels almost like a reunion whenever Chris Carpenter takes the field for UTSA.

Carpenter has known about head coach Jeff Traylor for as long as he can remember because the Roadrunners’ leader once taught his mother, Delanna Hollis, at Jacksonville (Texas) High School in the 1990s.

“He also coached my high school position coach Randall Canady,” Carpenter said. “I first met Coach Traylor when I was in high school and he was coaching at Arkansas. He’s a real genuine guy, and it’s been nothing but love since I met him.”

Read the rest of the feature on Carpenter for more on his transfer from Colorado, which teammates are his childhood friends, his claim to fame plays at UTSA, and his life since becoming a dad.

🔼 Going Once, Going Twice... Roadrunners fans now have the opportunity to own a piece of history, as UTSA Athletics announced it will auction off selected Lights Out black football jerseys from the 2024 season. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the UTSA Football program.

The Lights Out uniforms debuted on Nov. 2, when UTSA defeated No. 25 Memphis to earn its first-ever victory over a top-25 opponent. It marked just the second time in program history and the first since 2016 that UTSA Football has worn black uniforms. UTSA will auction off 43 Lights Out jerseys in honor of Coach Traylor’s 43rd win as head coach.

🔼 Basketball Blip. The UTSA men’s basketball team suffered its first home loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to a tough Little Rock (2-2) squad. A shooting slump late in the first half put the Roadrunners behind, and the team couldn’t string together enough scoring runs in the second half to overcome the deficit.

The Roadrunners next travel to Troy, Alabama, for the Trojan Turkey Tipoff. Tournament contests against host Troy (Nov. 25) and Merrimack (Nov. 27) are scheduled before the Thanksgiving holiday.

🔼 The Definition of Service. Retired Army Staff Sergeant Jason Tabansky is a Boerne, Texas, resident and the 2024 Paralympic Gold Medalist in Archery! He was honored at Friday’s football game vs. North Texas as the USAA Military Family of the Game.

Go here to hear more of his story.

🔼 That’s a Wrap. UTSA Cross Country wrapped up the NCAA South Central Regional on Friday at Texas A&M. The women finished 29th in the field, led by senior Chante Dixon, and the men finished 23rd, led by senior AJ Tyler. In the men’s 10k, Tyler came in 97th, leading all Roadrunners, with a time of 32:13.8.
