UTSA and UNT end Thursday's game in a 2-2 draw despite heart-pounding goals and career-high saves

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. It was an exhilarating back-and-forth on Thursday night at the UNT Soccer Stadium.

The 14th meeting on the pitch between UTSA (6-5-2, 1-3-1 AAC) and North Texas (7-3-3, 3-1-1 AAC) ended in a 2-2 draw that came down to the closing moments despite heart-pounding goals from Kameron Kloza (2’) and Jordan Walker (48’), along with a career-high saves count for Jasmine Kessler (7). It was the first draw in the series that dates back to 2008.

🔼 Upping the Ante. The American Athletic Conference has officially unveiled the 2024-25 league schedule as UTSA is set to play an 18-game slate, including nine in the Convocation Center. The 2024-25 AAC tipoff times and TV matchups will be revealed later.

UTSA will open conference play in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday, Dec. 29, with a showdown against the 49ers. The Runners will then head to The Convo to ring in the new year, facing the UAB on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

The campaign will conclude on Tuesday, Mar. 4, with the Roadrunners playing East Carolina in Greenville.

The American Championships will once again return to Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, with the event spanning Mar. 8-12.

🔼 She Gibbs Her All. With the 2024 UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame Class set to be honored during Homecoming Weekend, UTSA Athletics is profiling each of the five inductees leading up to the Induction Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 18, at Pedrotti’s Ranch. Former women’s basketball star Monica Gibbs is featured today.

Gibbs will join Derrick Gervin (men’s basketball), Michael Rockett (baseball), Starlite Williams (women’s basketball, track & field), and Teddy Williams (men’s track & field) as the second class inducted into the UTSA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Marking the official starts of the UTSA MBB and WBB seasons, Rowdy Jam is set for October 16.

🔼 Funny Bumping Into You. The UTSA volleyball team is headed to North Carolina. Tonight, they will play East Carolina at 5 PM CST in an AAC contest before meeting Charlotte at noon on Sunday.

The Roadrunners (6-9, 0-2 The American) will look to bounce back after suffering defeats against North Texas (22-25, 25-22, 25-25, 26-24) and Rice (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) to open league play last week.

The ‘Runners continue to lead The American with 2.41 blocks per set and 132.5 total blocks check in at No. 33 on the NCAA leaderboard. Individually, Mia Soerensen boasts 59 blocks to lead the AAC.

🔼 Rowdy’s Rewarding Good Grades. UTSA Athletics has announced its new initiative to engage with local schools and reward elementary school students for their hard work in the classroom.

Kindergarten through fifth-grade students at participating San Antonio-area schools who have made the honor roll will receive one complimentary UTSA football ticket to either the Oct. 19 game vs. Florida Atlantic or the Nov. 2 game vs. Memphis. Students will also receive a certificate of academic achievement in section 143 at the game. Family members will have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets.

Malone was a star pitcher for the Roadrunners from 2020 to 2023, earning all-conference accolades in his final two seasons. The right-hander finished his career with a 17-9 record, 4.45 ERA, 178 strikeouts, and a pair of saves in 63 appearances that totaled 234.2 innings pitched.

🔼 A Healthy Opportunity. UTSA Athletics is proud to celebrate the recently announced integration between UTSA and UT Health San Antonio with exclusive ticket offers for the Oct. 19 Homecoming football game against Florida Atlantic at the Alamodome. As part of UTSA Athletics’ Salute to Hometown Heroes, that game is a Salute to Healthcare presented by UT Health San Antonio.

UT Health San Antonio students can claim one free ticket to the Oct. 19 football game and enjoy the action from the student section. UT Health San Antonio students also have the opportunity to purchase guest tickets for just $12 apiece.

Monica Gibbs was the first UTSA women’s basketball player to have her jersey retired. She was a three-time all-conference performer and the 2009 Southland Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year. The Stillwater, Oklahoma, native helped lead the Roadrunners to two of their most successful seasons in program history during her time in San Antonio.
