🏈 Takeaway Parade
🏆 First-Ever Champion
🤙🏼 And much, much more!

🔼 Takeaway Parade. UTSA ripped the ball away six times and punched in six rushing touchdowns (both school records) in a 42-19 rout at Tulane on Saturday night that ended the Green Wave’s 10-game home winning streak. Four fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and 223 rushing yards did the damage, with Will Henderson III going for 102 and A’Marion Peterson finding the end zone twice. Owen Pewee lived in the backfield with three sacks and three hurries as the Roadrunners improved to 7-1 and stayed perfect in the American at 4-0.

🔼 First Ever. Enzo Vargas became UTSA’s first champion at the American Individual Championships yesterday, closing out a six-match run with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Tulsa’s Victor Tosetto in the final. The junior knocked off three seeded players along the way, including a three-set comeback over Rice’s Rafael Botran and a straight-set takedown of No. 2 seed Daniel Philips of Tulane in the semifinals. The title sends Vargas to the ITA Conference Masters Championships in early November.

🔼 Sending Them Out Right. Leah Varela buried a 40th-minute penalty kick and UTSA sent its seniors off with a 1-0 win over Temple on Sunday. Brooklyn Bailey set a program single-game record with 12 shots, breaking Simone Boye’s 2012 mark of nine, as the Roadrunners outshot the Owls 23-10 and held Temple without a single shot on goal in the second half. Jasmine Kessler needed just one save for her third clean sheet of the year, pushing her career totals to 29 wins and 19 solo shutouts, both program records.

🔼 Pro Ball Next. Primo Spears became the first Roadrunner ever taken in the NBA G League Draft, going 25th overall in the first round to the Westchester Knicks. The combo guard from Hartford averaged 19.8 points in his lone season at UTSA, second in the American and 25th nationally, and became the program’s first all-conference pick in the American era. Spears spent last season with Ostioneros de Guaymas in Mexico, putting up 17.0 points and 4.3 assists across 34 games.

🔼 Fall World Series. So good to see these guys out on the diamond this weekend!
