UTSA rallied from a deficit to beat FAU, achieving its 14th win in the last 15 home contests

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. UTSA used a stout defense and efficient offense to rally from a 17-10 first-half deficit to win 38-24 over Florida Atlantic in American Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Alamodome.

With the win, the Roadrunners snapped a two-game losing skid to run their record to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the league. UTSA also improved to 26-3 at home under fifth-year head coach Jeff Traylor with its 14th win in the last 15 contests at the Alamodome.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Dishing Out a Donut For Senior Day. The UTSA soccer team (7-6-3, 2-4-2 AAC) put together its most dominant performance of the year with a special event on the line, trouncing the visiting Temple Owls (2-14, 0-7 AAC) in a 3-0 Senior Day victory at Park West. After enjoying the win, UTSA turned its attention to recognizing the careers and accomplishments of eight seniors: Isobel Herrod, Jordan Walker, Maci Geltmeier, Jordyn Hyland, Sasjah Dade, Sabrina Hillyer, Olivia Alvarez, and Peyton Godbey.

The Roadrunners logged a season-high 11 corners and held the Owls to none, outshooting Temple 21-4 with 10 shots on goal while holding possession 64 percent of the game. The 3-0 victory matches UTSA’s largest victory margin of the year, previously at Central Arkansas on Sept. 28.

🔼 Besting the Blazers is the Bomb. The UTSA Volleyball team got back in the W column on Friday, as they took down UAB, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 for their first AAC victory in what represented the squad's Homecoming match.

The Roadrunners (7-13, 1-6 The American) bested the Blazers (7-11, 2-5 The American), as sophomore Peyton Turner led the match with 15 digs. Classmate Kai Bailey, meanwhile, dominated, working 12 kills at a .450 clip with four blocks.

Unfortunately, the team suffered a setback to Tulsa on Sunday, but as noted above (👆🏼), the team is back in action this Friday!

🔼 Ligon Follows the Traylor Trail. UTSA’s 6-foot-2 fifth-year senior linebacker from Tyler, Texas, Jamal Ligon, has been guided by a set of culture pillars that have remained unchanged since 2017 when Lee High School named Kurt Traylor the program’s head coach.

“My freshman year of high school (2016), we went 0-10,” Ligon said. “And we weren’t even bad; we had some good players. And then, my senior year, we went to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. The culture pillars at my high school were nearly the same.”

Ligon was an All-State performer in high school and was a Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Top 300 selection. He was known for his versatility. Accordingly, he was named the 2019 District 11-6A Utility Player of the Year.

Ligon had initially committed to another college, but when Jeff Traylor was named the Roadrunners’ head coach in December 2019 and brought along Kurt as an assistant, Ligon decided to attend UTSA.

Read the feature on Ligon for more on these culture pillars, the deep impact the Traylor family has had on him, and his love of the game.

🔼 Challenge Accepted. The UTSA women’s golf team will wrap up its fall schedule today at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club (par 72/6,123 yards).

The Roadrunners have played in the Jim West Challenge six times previously. Last year, UTSA set several school records en route to a seventh-place performance. The Roadrunners fired a UTSA-best 15-under 273 in the final round behind Camryn Carreon’s program-record 8-under 64.
