🔼 Baseball in His Blood. The first word young Mason Lytle ever spoke was ‘baseball.’

It’s no surprise that, all these years later, he’s on a quest to help lead UTSA to new heights in the sport under sixth-year head coach Pat Hallmark.

Lytle has undoubtedly brought talent and star power to the Roadrunners, but you wouldn’t know it from meeting him, as he avoids the spotlight and prefers his work on the field to speak for itself.

“I try to stay humble and grounded,” he said.

Lytle hails from Pearland, Texas, in the Houston metro, an area rich with baseball talent.

“Growing up, you’re playing against people who are going to be MLB first-round draft picks,” Lytle said. “You’re competing with these guys and being successful against them, so it makes you feel like you could hang with it.”

Read the feature on Lytle for more on his pre-Roadrunners baseball career, coming back from a serious injury, and the immediate impact he made at UTSA.

🔼 When the Convo Calls. The UTSA volleyball team is set to host a pair of American Athletic Conference bouts in the Convocation Center this week, with UAB visiting for a 4 p.m. Homecoming contest on Friday, ahead of a Cancer Awareness match with Tulsa on Sunday at noon.

🔼 A San Antonio Salute. San Antonio-based USAA, a longtime UTSA Athletics supporter, has expanded its relationship with the Roadrunners, becoming the program’s Official Military Appreciation Partner. As part of this new partnership, USAA will sponsor every “Salute to Armed Forces” home game across all UTSA sports and provide enhanced experiences with exciting activities planned to honor and appreciate military families.

“We are grateful for USAA’s continued support of UTSA Athletics,” UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos said. “Recognizing currently serving service members and veterans is a top priority for us as San Antonio’s nationally recognized Division I athletics program here in Military City, USA.”

🔼 You Down With MBB? With the 2024-25 men’s basketball season coming at the beginning of November, officials from the AAC have announced the league’s selections for linear broadcast television this season. The Roadrunners have also announced the full slate of tip times for both non-conference and conference games. UTSA is scheduled for three nationally televised AAC games on ESPNU, including one at the Convo.

The Roadrunners’ season tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, at the Convocation Center against Trinity with a streaming broadcast set for ESPN+.

🔼  Get in the Inner Hoop Loop. The American Athletic Conference officially unveiled TV networks and tipoff times for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season, with UTSA set to play all 13 regular season home games live on ESPN+. Additionally, all 18 ‘Runners conference contests will air on the streaming service.

Following an exhibition against St. Mary’s on Friday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 PM CST, UTSA will play its first home game of the regular season, facing UTRGV at 2 PM on Saturday, Nov. 9.

You'll find the full scoop here.

🔼 Taking It in Stride. UTSA men’s and women’s cross country will return to competition today, as both squads are set to compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. A near-annual event for the Roadrunners, the Arturo Barrios will feature 40 teams with over 800 combined entries.

Competition will start with the men’s 8k race at 8:30 AM PST, while the women’s 6k follows at 9:15 AM. UTSA will see a large contingent, with 24 runners competing in College Station.
