Coach Jeff Traylor announces 14 signees to Roadunners Football on National Signing Day

🤙 The Official Newsletter For UTSA Athletics

Good morning. UTSA head football coach Jeff Traylor announced 15 signees on the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday.

The group features 10 players from the state of Texas, one apiece from Arizona, Arkansas, Florida and Massachusetts, as well as one from Australia. Of the players from the Lone Star State, three each hail from the Greater Houston Area and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex/North Texas, two are from Central Texas and one apiece from San Antonio and East Texas.

Nine of the players are slated to play on the offensive side of the ball, five are pegged for the defense, and one is a specialist.

Ten of the players are joining the Roadrunners from the high school ranks, while the other five are transfers who were part of FBS programs.

🔼 Class Acts. Five UTSA football players have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Football team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. With this year’s five honorees, the UTSA football program now has a total of 16 academic all-district selections.

🔼 Late Rally Falls Short. The UTSA men’s basketball team (5-7) fell in non-conference action on Thursday night at the Convocation Center, dropping a 63-53 setback to Army West Point (3-9) in the final game before the Christmas holiday. The Roadrunners went into halftime trailing by five, but a cold-shooting second half allowed the Black Knights to build a lead the Roadrunners couldn’t top despite a late-game rally.

After the holiday, UTSA returns to action at the Convocation Center in the final non-conference contest of the year, hosting Prairie View A&M for the third time in five years on Dec. 28 at 7:00 PM CST.

🤙 ONE BIG THING

More Like One HUGE Thing. In case you’ve been caught under a rock or heavy piece of furniture, the UTSA Roadrunners football program registered their first bowl win on Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium against the Marshall Thundering Herd!

Joshua Cephus caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, and Kam Alexander had a 57-yard return to help seal a 35-17 victory in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.
