UTSA Baseball earned its third consecutive 30-win season with a 13-3 run-rule victory over UIW

Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The UTSA baseball team earned its third consecutive 30-win season by securing a 13-3 run-rule victory in eight innings over crosstown rival UIW on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field. UTSA improved to a 30-21 overall record, while UIW fell to a 24-27 overall record.
Alexander Olivo led the team with three hits—two of them doubles—along with three RBI and a run. Both Mason Lytle and Caleb Hill tied the individual season game-high for runs scored with four each. Ryan Beaird earned his second win of the season, allowing just one run and striking out one in 2.2 innings pitched.

🔼 🏅 That’s So Medal 🤟🏼. Sunday proved to be a big medal day for the Roadrunners, as UTSA track & field captured four medals en route to a fifth-place men’s team finish on the final day of the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Closing out the night, freshman Ida Breigan was also named AAC Freshman of the Year to sweep that honor for the year.
The biggest event of the day for the Roadrunners was the men’s triple jump, allowing UTSA to rack up 23 points toward the team total in one swoop. Leading the pack, Bridgetown, junior Jemuel Miller used his sixth and final attempt to reach 16.08m (52-9.25) and capture the silver medal.

🔼 On the Hunt, Indeed. UTSA senior Hunter Bott flew up the leaderboard with a record-setting scorecard in the second round of the NCAA Austin Regional on Tuesday at UT Golf Club (par 71/7,399 yards). Bott will tee off from No. 1 today for the final round at 9:42 AM CST and will ultimately learn if he will advance to play in the NCAA Championship on May 24-29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Entering the second day with a share of 66th place after posting a 6-over-par 77 on Monday, Bott fired a 4-under 67 to move up 29 places into a tie for 37th at 2-over 144 with 18 holes left to play on Wednesday. He is only two strokes back of the top 20 and five shots out of a four-way tie for 10th place at 3-under 139 in the field led by Wake Forest’s Michael Brennan at 7-under 135 (67-68).
🔼 On the Ball Both On and Off the Court. Graduate student Cassie McLay and senior Aleksandra Zlatarova were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Honoree list. The 2024 Academic All-District® Women’s Tennis teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
To be eligible, an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and a graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
🔼 As For This Ace. The College Sports Communicators (CSC) released its 2024 men’s tennis Academic All-District team honorees, with UTSA men’s tennis junior Danijal Muminovic appearing among the awardees for the second consecutive year.
Muminovic is maintaining a 3.95 cumulative grade point average with a major in Business Analytics and a minor in Management Science. Originally from Tuzla, Bosnia, he was also previously named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete in 2022 and 2023, was only the third men’s tennis Roadrunner to earn a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team and garnered two Commissioner's Academic Medals.
🔼 What a Grab. UTSA softball coach Vann Stuedeman has officially announced the signing of Luna Community College transfer and one of the National Junior College Athletics Association's all-time greats, Angelica Ortiz.
Ortiz recently wrapped up a stellar season at Luna CC, with 41 home runs and 119 RBIs on the year, both serving as the NJCAA Division I single-season records. Her .533 AVG and .613 OBP each rank third, while a whopping 1.480 SLG leads the nation. She's logged 222 total bases, the second-most in the JUCO ranks, and has worked 33 walks for the 26th-highest figure. For her efforts, she was named to the 2024 all-region team as a designated player and was the Region 9 Player of the Year.
🔼 A Tall Order. UTSA volleyball coach Carol Price-Torok officially announced the signing of Isabella Arroyave to the squad.
A 6-1 outside hitter, Arroyave joins the squad following a standout prep career in Colombia, where she competed for the Antioquia National. She's made several appearances with the Columbian senior team and helped the squad to a sixth-place finish at the Pan American Games in 2023. With Antioquia, she collected departmental championships in 2022 and 2023 while also winning gold medals in the 2023 VLIII National Minor Volleyball Championship, the 2023 VLVIII National Youth Volleyball Championship, and the 2022 Women's Minor National Championship.
🔼 Last But Not Least! UTSA volleyball coach Carol Price-Torok also officially announced the signing of Annika Sokol, who will join the Roadrunners following a freshman season at UCF. After appearing primarily as a defensive specialist in 18 matches for a 17-12 UCF squad, Sokol will head to the Alamo City for the 2024 campaign.
With the Knights, she recorded 68 digs, including a 17-dig performance against TCU on Oct. 26, 2024. Sokol also performed well in the classroom, posting a 4.0 GPA that earned her a pair of academic all-state awards and a spot in the National Honor Society.
