🔼 UTSA Softball, From A to Z. Zelinda Camacho has played softball for as long as she can remember. In fact, she was first introduced to the sport when she was only four years old. But when Camacho, who had always dreamed of attending UTSA, graduated high school, she was certain that her playing days were over.

“It got to my senior year of high school, and I wasn’t getting any offers,” Camacho said. “I have always wanted to go to UTSA, and it was my dream school. I knew I wasn’t going to play, so I was just getting ready to go to UTSA as a student.”

It turns out Camacho couldn’t have been more wrong.

Newly-appointed head coach Stuedeman Vann Stuedeman wanted to add a pitcher to her roster who could throw batting practice. She suggested to assistant coach Tori Smith that they try to find a former high school softball player currently enrolled at UTSA. Smith, known for her recruiting prowess and extensive ties in Texas as a junior college coach, already knew of Camacho.

🔼 Peek Behind the Curtain. You're invited to the American Football Kickoff, July 22-23, in Arlington, Texas, to celebrate the beginning of the 2024 UTSA football season.

The American Athletic Conference is giving a limited number of fans the opportunity to experience the 2024 Kickoff in person and gain unprecedented access to players and coaches. Fans can sit in on press conferences, take part in photo opportunities, and enjoy meet-and-greets with the student-athletes and coaches.

🔼 From the Ground Up. After announcing the newest Roadrunners last week, UTSA Athletics is kicking off 210 Legacy Tuesdays with the 2024 HOF selection, Derrick Gervin. UTSA's 1st player to 1,000 points 𝘼𝙉𝘿 500 rebounds, Gervin laid the program's foundation from the beginning.

🔼 It’s About the Hoopla. This summer, UTSA Athletics has been profiling its numerous areas to provide an inside look into how each unit serves Roadrunners’ student-athletes. 

In this edition, we sat down with Kirby Paulson, the newly hired Associate Athletics Director for Fan Engagement, to discuss the Fan Engagement unit. 

Q: How does your department service UTSA student-athletes? 

Kirby Paulson: “Our goal is to create an engaging and exciting environment for our student-athletes and to be able to provide a setting where they can be at their most competitive…It’s important for us and our student-athletes to be able to connect with the community. That’s one of the pillars of the Roadrunner Game Plan.”
