Good morning, Roadrunners Fam. The Bexar County Commissioner’s Court has approved a $5 million investment in UTSA’s planned Basketball and Volleyball Training Facility. The 51,900-square-foot facility will be located adjacent to the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence.

“Partnering with UTSA on this project will benefit their student-athletes, but also Bexar County as a whole,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody, who sponsored the project, said. “This facility will be accessible to the public and utilized for a wide variety of community and athletic events…making this a win-win for all of us.”

🔼 No Botts About It. Get to know UTSA men's golfer Hunter Bott in this Q&A.

Q: Why did you choose UTSA?

Hunter Bott: "I chose UTSA because of the practice facilities that we get to access at TPC San Antonio, and the team atmosphere makes it a great place to be able to grow and develop my game."

Q: How did you first get involved in playing your sport?

Hunter Bott: "I joined my junior high golf team for fun because they didn't have a baseball team. My dad was a good golfer, so I would just go out with him and play some golf. I was a baseball player, and that was my passion. Next thing I know, freshman year of high school, I got my first golf lesson and made the varsity team. I enjoyed it so much that I quit baseball and became a golfer."

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: The rivalry dates back to 1991 when the University of Texas at San Antonio joined as a non-football member of the Southland Conference.

Southwest Texas State University, which joined the conference only four years earlier, is located less than 60 miles from the UTSA main campus. Due to their proximity, conference membership, and status as emerging research universities, the rivalry emerged. It was bolstered by a desire to bring attention to collegiate athletics in Central Texas.
