🔼 They Came to Play. ICYMI! The UTSA Roadrunners soccer team (2-0) made its first appearance at San Antonio FC’s Toyota Field a memorable one on Sunday night, keeping the crosstown crown intact with a 1-0 shutout of UIW (0-1-1), courtesy of Olivia Alvarez’s second-half penalty kick.

🔼 Just Getting Started. UTSA soccer had a pair of players notch spots on the first American Athletic Conference weekly honors of the 2024 season, as officials from the league office announced that Olivia Alvarez has been named AAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Kameron Kloza earned honorable mention, for their efforts leading UTSA to a 2-0 start.
Although an AAC’s Preseason Watch List member, this is Alvarez's first weekly honor. The same goes for Kloza, who is in her first season with the Roadrunners.
Starting the season 2-0 in consecutive years for the first time in program history, UTSA hits the road this week for the first time this season, heading up the Interstate to meet Texas State in the Battle of I-35 on Thursday night.
🔼 Lil’ Peeps. UTSA Athletics has launched Meep Meep Peeps, its official kid’s club, in partnership with Raising Canes. It is the perfect way for each little Rowdy to support the Roadrunners.
Each $30 annual membership comes with a Raising Canes prize pack and ticket vouchers to be exchanged for select games, with one selected Meep Meep Peeps game for each ticketed sport.
UTSA Athletics will announce the schedule of eligible games for Meep Meep Peeps once the schedule for each sport is released.
🔼 A Hallmark Decision. UTSA head baseball coach Pat Hallmark on Tuesday announced that he has hired San Antonio native Michael Cavazos as an assistant coach.
Cavazos comes to the Roadrunners following a two-year stint as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Mary’s. He helped the Rattlers to 45 wins, including 41 in the Lone Star Conference, over his two seasons on the staff. The San Antonio Lee High School product helped coach players to a combined six all-conference selections, and a pair to all-region accolades — including Clay Bradford by three different organizations — while Ryan McGowen was a South Central Region All-Defensive Team selection.
Learn more about his background.
🔼 Connor Comes Full Circle. Former UTSA tennis staffer Connor Barnard is set to return to San Antonio, as women’s tennis coach Ki Kroll announced his addition as an assistant coach for the Roadrunners ahead of the 2024-25 school year.
“I am beyond excited to be back at UTSA, where my coaching career started,” Barnard said. “Ki has done an amazing job with the women’s tennis program, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue the success.”
Barnard has spent the past two seasons as an assistant men’s coach at Wichita State, helping to coach the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Freshman of the Year Alejandro Jacome and regionally ranked doubles Kristof Minarik and Alex Richards.
